Scrap metal?

So i have been playing for a few hours and can't seem to get any scrap metal from cars. I have driven around the map find any rusty or brown cars and tried hitting them with a slegde hammer but i can't collect any. Am i doing this right? or is there a bug or something? please help.

My guess is you're hitting the wrong ones. You want the blackish/rusty ones. Like I said, only my guess🤘

Unless its changed (it has been awhile) you also hit cars in Surroundead. The blackish/rusty ones. Sledgie or crowbar (crowbar is best, less stamina.)

Okay I just checked with sledge hammer and crowbar and you are right. Metal scraps can also be taken off of black burned cars (screenshot from just now)

At 1200+ hours I have smacked quite a few of them🤘

lol nice well, I never gave it a try as I always found stuff I needed by looting thus I never checked the black burned cars even when they first introduced in game (I only check them if are driveable or lootable by looking at them never thought to hit them )

p.s and here an award (gave you the big steam award) for helping us out

With the greatness of the loot respawn multiplier you really don't even have to smack cars. I love looting so I started cranking it up to 5 and going to the subway. That first area is great for resource loot. So is Lawrence Creek in general.
