Multiplayer is already on the roadmap, though way down the path I would say. I would also say: it's probably not about whether he knows HOW to make it MP or not, but if he feels the game has a solid enough foundation for that. MP is more than just letting more than one player in the game, you would likely also "should"/"have to" have missions/activities of some sort beyond just the looting/shooting; which of course means more work than just "allowing" more than one player.

Also, consider it would also take a dedicated server, or some sort of peer-to-peer server (like Minecraft has with the Essential mod) to permit it in a way that's cost effective.
