The way I do it is to start by choosing one where you can throw Molotov cocktails at it from a certain distance. If you have to enter a building, I rule it out because of the risk of getting trapped. So, first I clean the area. I throw 3 Molotov cocktails, I run away, from a certain distance I kill the zombies that appear. I approach again, throw another 2 Molotov cocktails. I clean again and that's it.

Other tricks are to take the humvee. If you climb to the top, they will surround the vehicle but will not be able to reach you, it is a good point to get to safety. Or make a redoubt using cement blocks.

If you can thin out the original zerg you will only get a few spawns from then on; nothing you cannot handle easily.

And the go to infestation remover is a moltov, but you can also (once thinned) just sneak up and melee the pile -I tend to do this with infestations you cannot reach with a moltov. They actually drop rather quickly if you are using even a mid range melee weapon.

I use a vehicle and shoot the infestation until it is gone then clean up the horde surrounding me. Sometimes they do get in the way of the infestation, though, and you have to shoot between there legs.

shotgun and molatovs =)

Typically I igonre the Zeds and take out the Infestation at long range, then clean up the Zeds.

So far the only one I've found that doesn't work for is the one in the 'Guns' store in the north, because it's inside. For that one, thin the Zed herd and quickly get in and deal with the Infestation before more Zeds show up.

drag the zombies outside, go in, place bench or fence or chairs to block the exits and melee it if you want

Any weapon can damage the zombie pile. Most effective is Molotovs because it keeps burning the pile.

Just remember that its difficult to get really good loot off the pile, so don't use stuff that is pretty rare. Like Bazooka rockets.

Other ways I've found are:

-> Heavy machinegun XM253 or whatever makes pretty short work of it, but will blaze through a lot of ammo to do it.
-> Barrett .50 Cal is pretty good at it, and if you shoot from far enough away, the zombies won't even hear its un-silenced shots.
-> Grenade Launcher is pretty useful, as it not only hurts the infestation, but the explosions often heavily hurt some red-eye zombies too.
-> If there aren't many Red Eyes around, an Exterminator shotgun can be good, but if there are, you'll likely die trying to kill them with it.
-> I've not tried, as they are pretty precious, but some have said that, you can drop a gas can and shoot it to create a very large fireball.

And when it spawns in the shooting range ... the nest is inaccessible after killing it so we can't loot it

Haven't had an issue getting in to Loot the Infestation or the Hidden Cache in the back left corner.

Jump up on the counter, then crouch, then move through before you can stand up and move inside the firing range lanes. It can be finicky, but it's doable.

That is untrue you can always get to it one way or another, noclip mode is the worse case to get to it but you go in the back you can get to it if you work at it. its easy.
I don't have problem with them too, worse case i use god mode along with mollies..

The issue isn't getting into the shooting range. The issue is getting back out again. Its often easier to wiggle your way into a tight space, than to try to get back out the way you came in.
