Also, having lots of bags in bags and full of loot can cause it too.
I have about twenty vehicles and a huge amount of various loot (weapons, ammunition, healing items, etc).
I tested by moving ALL the loot into a series of backpacks on my character and swapping the new save's "player" folder.
The result is the return to stable and normal fps but I lost base and vehicles. I hope it's a bug.
I also tried deleting loot and vehicles without changing the save but the problem remained so the problem is in the "player" folder.
At this point I'm pretty sure the problem is in the level.sav file inside the "player" folder of the game save, but I haven't found any free software to edit .sav files.
I'm screwed :(
