Black screen on startup

I downloaded the Demo of Fear 2 today, but whenever I load the game, I just get a black screen and the sound for 2 intro clips, that's it, nothing else.
A lot of other people on google have had this problem, but almost all of them have solved it, but I can't quite tell how/or it's not working for me.
I've tried disabling all my sound cards and running it, also tried compatibility modes, tried PC restart, tried verifying integrity of game cache, even in safe mode it doesn't work! :S
Any ideas?

My PC:
Intel Core i5-2500k @ 3.30GHz
Nvidia GTX 670
8GB Ram

Right I finally managed to make it work, but I need to disable my 2nd monitor every time I start the game in order for it to run, but that's ridiculous, I can't be expected to do that everytime?

Wow I posted this a long time ago! 5 years! haha, well I've since bought and completed the game and I don't remember having this problem at all, do you only have the problem with the demo? or the actual game? I've just checked and I don't have any forced settings or other hacks in place

I just tried the demo. (I have played the full nonsteam game a long time ago).

Sorry bit slow to reply to this one. I'd advise trying the full game and if its no good get a refund if you're not happy, I honestly don't remember ever having this problem with the full game.
I now have an i7-3770k, GTX 970 and 16GB of RAM, but couldn't tell you if I'd made those upgrades in between the demo and playing the full game

for anyone else having this issue another fix is to run the game in windowed mode using this as a launch option "+windowed 1"

This fix worked for me. Rightclick on the FEAR2.exe and in the Compatibility Tab tick "Disable full-screen optimisations" Run the game and switch off Widescreen and the game runs Ok and runs in Widescreen i.e I am running 3440X1440 Ok.

Thanks! Windowed mode is the only thing that worked for me. Compatibility mode "Windows XP SP 2", turning off fullscreen optimization, "-safemode" launch flag - all these things didn't help.

+1 for the windowed mode solution. Now the game starts without a black screen AND I can alt-tab without any crashes - yay!
