This. Nailed it. Too much Alma screen time and a masterpiece original F.E.A.R. to live up to. Still, i liked FEAR 2. Gorgeous graphics, solid gunplay, cool story. Definitely, not a bad game.
First because of the iron sights, I have played FEAR 3 with a friend, and noticed the iron sights is the same in FEAR 2, it's annoying because I can't see the enemy well, the iron sights just "hide" the enemy.
Second, because I can't save any time, I don't like to play until a "checkpoint" and rely my game to an auto-save feature that can corrupt and I could lose my progression, and because sometimes I just want to play a bit, save and exit the game.
Yes so true...I have Fear 1 cd, just now have legit fear 2 (yes i play non steam) ...This is my favorite more then 1! The only fear 1 i like was Mandate Persus.. the others have a good history but so borring (my opinion) f3ar omg sucks like balls ony thinks positive is gameplay with multi and coops.
Fear 2 the only think bad is so short but i love so much atmosphere, the graphic are solic even with some glich in some parts...but still love and is fun :)
gameplay, sound, graphic good, the history is average because is short unless u have dlc :)

Fear 2 is back ;-)
If this game came out first, it'd definitely have been better than 1. However, it didnt.
The AI in this game also cant compare to the first. The first had phenomonal AI.
I agree with alot of what has been said but i think alot of it comes down to the fact that Fear 1 was way ahead of its time and a fresh story and style. by the time 2 came out that style of game was everywhere.
False..I already play with she in tunngle..she have just private profile thats all
-No lean feature hurts that tactics of combat. It's more of a straight forward run and gun spectical. Though you could pass this off on it being a different character.. though it feels to me like it was removed more so due to it being a console release.
-Squishy enimies. Yet again everything feels frantic and over a little too fast. In the first F.E.A.R. 5 Replica units felt like a real fire fight. Now you can rip through 10 or so and barely break a sweat on higher difficulties.
-Highlighted enimies. That ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ glow really takes away from the fire fights. You know exactly where everyone is at all times so getting flanked almost NEVER happens anymore. Really kills the tension of those little moments of "quiet time" inside of shoot outs. You never really worry about checking behind you because you can clearly still see 3 doods.
-No true dynamic lighting. Everything is static for the most part. I can understand that due to the upgrade in looks that they needed to downgrade the lighting to keep everything a lot less hectic to the eyes... but it feels more like an issue with consolization. It could have been a way to actually take stress off of consoles at the time. The lack of a dynamic lighting option really takes away from the title on PC.
-The "horror" segments are more shooty now. Rather than relying of various jump scares like the first F.E.A.R.; you now have to deal with metaphysical spooks and the like. This isn't a bad thing for me personally though. The first title was very "meh" with the horror. Once you realized that you're in no real danger ( aside from the final segment in F.E.A.R. ) you sort of just go through the motions of a spook house. The second one always has a tinge of danger. I thinks it's really an inprovement, honestly.
It's a good game by even todays standards. It does everything a shooter needs to do right and exels at it all. It just doesn't live up to the mechanics of the first one in gameplay. Still better than 90% of newer titles though, just different from the first I suppose.
Having played the second one so long after the first I prefered the second title.
With the sale going I figured I'd install my hard copy of the first and give them both a back to back play through. The mechanics of the first title are much more solid simply due to the lean. As a shooter that can punish you for being gunghoe and running into combat it really hurts the game to take that feature away. It goes from being a tactical shooter to a run and gun frag fest.
They're two different games really as far as I see it.
Both are great in their own ways.
Not really a matter of one being better than the other. These aren't teams we're rooting for here.
