Extraction Point and Perseus Mandade are non-canon by Monolith. Different developer made them. So with that logic, Fear 3 should also be non-canon, considering how bad it is. Plus another developer made it.
Reborn is OK. If you want the best addition though, the demo is surprisingly good and unlike anything in the full game.
And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was I wrong.
Graphically it's a huge improvement, environments are not as bland as they were in the original, but everything else is ♥♥♥♥, to the point it feels like a COD clone with a few jumpscares.
FEAR 2 is the kind of game where it seems like you're being tactical, making split second decisions and throwing perfectly arced grenades through windows and stuff like that, but really the enemies are just so dumb that you can do whatever you want. You can get away with just about anything because those guys are either caught on the geometry of the level, running in circles around an office trying to kick over every table they can find or hiding behind childrens desks at a school like that could possibly be considered good cover. That first big mech boss can be beat by just crouching behind a box in the middle of the room and shooting it point blank. Its easy to feel like a superman if you aren't playing on the hardest difficulty. At least you could lean in FEAR 1.
First I played FEAR 1 on the hardest difficulty (first time) then I played FEAR 2 on the hardest difficulty my first time through. They were both difficult to an extent, but the difference was FEAR 1 was fun and it didn't feel cheap. Playing FEAR 2 on hard was a hateful experience. You really notice just how bad some games are when you play them on hard the first time. Maybe I would have liked it if I picked normal the first time around.
Also FEAR 2 has a horrible shotgun. Underpowered, weak sound effect, bad animations. I dropped it whenever I found something better. Maybe it makes enemies explode. I never saw that happen.
Fear 3 has less in common with the original than the second isntallment, but it's just more enjoyable and more fun game.
Setting, gunplay, story, enemy variety, it's better than the second game in all aspects.
I really do not understand the hate for F.E.A.R. 2. It's a great game! 8 out of 10 for me.
In the original F.E.A.R. there is no Mech Mule and in F.E.A.R. 2 the environment is prettier. The school, the Sniper riffle shootings, the trains, the horny Alma end, it's all great!
It's really disappointing that F.E.A.R. did not earn more bucks for monolith. Who in his right mind would develop a single player campaign shooter nowadays, when a great game like F.E.A.R. 2 could not bring in enough money?
Fear2 is more smooth in walking stairs than Extraction Point, and the GFX is better.
Also, EP is not balanced. In the station you meet a heavy with rockets. It's a hard time taking him out. This unbalanced gameplay is increased in Perseus Mandate, which contains situations where the gameplay is too hard and you need luck to make it.
F.e.a.r. 1 en F.e.a.r. 2 do not contain this unbalance.
