F.E.A.R 2 black screen on startup and freezes the computer. (WIN 10 64bits)
Can someone help me? I've tried all the compatibility modes, and the problem persists.

Thank you.

I'm ruuning game in Windows 10 64bit, Fullscreen and in Full HD (1080p).
I've found a solution. It's more of a hack though.

Run your game. Then if it stuck then press CTRL+ALT+DEL and open task bar (or do ALT+TAB to get out of the game). Then again press ALT+TAB to go back to the game. It'll start running shortly.

Now the problem is that it'll always start with resolution 640 by 480. Doesn't matter what you do it'll always come back to 640x480. To solve this you need to do the same trick.
Select the resolution you want to run then press apply. After pressing apply it may hang. If it hangs then just after pressing apply press ALT+TAB to come out from application and again press ALT+TAB to go back. And choose current resolution as YES.

Now from next time onwards it'll use this.
Just let me know if anyone has a problem following it with text. I can make a YT video but it requires time.

Hi, in my case when I start the game it crashes my laptop and not can not use CTRL + ALT + DEL or ALT + TAB, lock the point of having to force the shutdown.

If you can help me I thank.

Sry m8, I didn't face crash, can't help. Just try compatibility mode once.

If that also don't work then try it on WindowsXP inside VirtualBox. I use it for older games that don't run on newer OS/hardware. VirtualBox is free and easy to setup. you can easily find WindowsXP disc and YT link.

I have the same problem here. Usually I can fix it by just closing my laptop and opening it again but that's pretty tedious. It also freezes on me whenever I try and fix the resolution.

I had this problem when using pirate version of F.E.A.R. 2. Fix: start game as administrator.

Here is the fix which worked for me.

As I see it (I use Win10 - 64Bit Also) Its a resolution problem. For that start the game in safe mode.
Just type -safemode in Steam>Fear 2>Settings>Startup Options.
Run the Game
Change the resolution in whatever you like (preferably above 1024x768)
Save and Exit game
Remove the -safemode option in steam
And start the game normally

This should work.

Wow, this actually worked for me! Thank you dude! After a month of search Im finally able to play it on Win10 running RTX 2070 Super. After changing resolution in safe mode from 640x480 to my native 2560x1440 the game automatically closed on me and then when I ran it without safe mode, for the first time it didnt freeze. Cheers!

FWIW for me, enabling FSAA would hang up the game again after getting initially with safemode. I maxed everything else but left motion blur off.
