F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Why people say the combat in this game is great?
I always heard people praising F.E.A.R combat, specially F.E.A.R 1 and 2. I can agree that the combat of F.E.A.R 1 is great, but i found this one terrible, guns sound weird, they don't feel powerfull at all (judging from the first level weapons) it sounds like paintball guns, and the overall feel of shooting is bland and boring. The only feature that i found interesting is the ability to use furniture as cover but thats the only thing really, AI is also stupid as hell.
I want to hear from fans, what made you think that F.E.A.R 2 combat is good?

Sometimes people like to think a game is good when it's not. The Walking Alma Simulator 2009 had potential for sure.

Well, I just played F.E.A.R. this weekend, and I just switched to F.E.A.R. 2.

FEAR 2 is sure nice and beautiful compared to the first, but I very much agree about fights. They felt interesting in FEAR but they are shallow in FEAR 2... :/

It's mostly a matter of AI, I think. In FEAR 2 the enemies do nothing interesting. -_-

I have to agree that the combat in this game is pretty boring. I found most enemies to be bullet sponges and that was the only real difficulty curve. FEAR 2 is good for one or two play throughs and that's about it in my opinion.

The biggest problem with this game is the horrible level design and the slow movement speed.
The levels are the complete opposite of what made FEAR1 great: the original had intertwined corridors with lots of directions to go allowing enemies and the player to flank each other. FEAR2 on the other hand only has basic corridors with maybe one open room here and there.
As I mentioned before the player moves at a snails pace. This discourages aggressive behavior and instead favors camping in cover and taking potshots. In FEAR1 you could easily storm out in the middle, take a couple enemies down and finally retreat into cover for a short breather.

Don'f forget the fun multiplayer! It's still very much alive amongst fans!

I believe it was the AI mechanics specifically. Not the actual game play. (The game is from 2005/2009 iirc for Fear 1 and 2) Its currently 2018. No game will age that well to be considered amazing to todays standards. Look at the game through the eyes of 2005. You'll see where it shines and doesn't.

Hm. That's pretty weird as I actually feel that combat is better, but easier than in F.E.A.R.

You don't need to count on time reflex to get kills, as weapons are either stronger or enemies are weaker with their aim or overall.
It feels more balanced.
AI is worse and that is sad. After first 2 hours of gameplay I stopped counting how many times enemy used something to "make a cover" to then just run away and die.
They are not as cooperative as in f.e.a.r.
And time reflex, slow mo or however it is called, now works more like a "how to make your kills look good" rather than "how to actually kill anything..at all."

Gunplay feels better for me, but I think adding 4th weapon slot was not necessary that much. Also I prefer the new armor/health system where you don't run around with 10 medkits are armor on every corner.
Now you only carry 3 lel!

Probably just the aspect of having boring and weak AI is the biggest difference. Often they make, like I said, basic moves and are really predictable.

Becasue it's fluid. Or at least performance wise, it should be then: the game's great.

The A.I. personally felt a little dumbed down compared to the first game, but that's probably because the maps in this game don't allow the A.I. full range like the maps in the first game did. Gunplay is a lot smoother and the weapons sound, look and feel better than they did in the first game. The first game wipes this one out of the park in terms of enemy A.I,but I feel this game trumps F.E.A.R 2 in every other category.

I don't think the combat is as good as FEAR 1, but as others have pointed out, the A.I. is a lot better in FEAR 1. However, I much prefer the enviroments of FEAR 2. There is a lot more variation and not every level is grey corridors and offices. Don't get me wrong, I love FEAR 1 but also love FEAR 2. They both have their pros and cons, as most games do.
