Railway Empire 2
Warehouses, track designs and maintenance
Hi,

I wanted to hear your thoughts around the warehouses.

I find them to be extremely useful, but I think the items it could store shoud not be limited to 6, but unlimited.

I understand this would reduce the amount of micro management, but this isn't a game around micro management and it's just annoying to have to take care to manually add which items to store...

When it comes to track design, I struggle to use the new tool at stations with cross-sections. It often does not work as intended.

I have also noticed that when 2 lines use the same track (1 going on each of the ends), new trains will not be summoned for reasons I don't understand.

Finally, trains need way too much of maintenance and it's annoying as well, especially on big stations as trains will block other arriving trains for ages while being repaired. It just destroy the flow of the game...

But maybe you guys have good tips for me around these issues.

6 is more than enough. But here are 3 things to think about:

1. First of all, you can have 3 stations in the city. That would give you 18 items. These warehouses seems somehow linked (I have to test this more)

2. Suppose you have a train that is going from cities A, B, C, stopping at stations with warehouses, 6 items each. This train effectively links these 3 warehouses by going back and forth.

3. Warehouse is for items you want your train to be able to pick up from the city. The city produces 3 items, so that's 3 more items for you to pick up.

UHHH!! Especially point 1 would be important for me to know more about. If they're linked, this would solve my problem.

To point 3: It's more about the resources needed. There are more than 3 needed at given times and if you want to contruct a hub, it won't be able to manage ALL of the resources unless the warehouses work together.

Regarding #1, you can drop off items in Station 1 warehouse, and pick them up from Station 2 in the same city and carry it forward. Somehow, the items make their way across town.

What I need to test is if you need to specify the same item in both warehouses or just 1.

Regarding #3, a Hub, I can save you a lot of trouble by telling you it is not going to work.

Theoretically, it could work, if you were content in your cities being 25k to 50k in population. A hub system is not going to be able to feed 350k cities like I have. There just isn't enough capacity in a hub system. You need capacity to drop off at the hub and than pick up from the hub and take it to another city. So you are doubling the capacity need, and creating a nightmarish mess of rail lines. to get stuff in and out of the hub.

What I am tinkering with is something that can be called a bus. (not a vehicle, but sort of like a PCI bus in the computer).

I have several cities on this bus. The components of the bus is a cargo only station in City 1 connected to same type of station in City 2, City 3 etc. They are linked with a rail line. I have 4 tracks wide for this, 2 each way.

Then, I have trains dropping off their loads on this bus in different cities. And I have trains going up and down, moving cargo from where there is excess to where there is deficit.

>>> Maybe a small one (3 goods) for the actual price, a medium (6 goods) for twice that price, and a big one (9 goods) for four/five times the actual price. Unlimited seems a bit overdone for me; takes away some 'problems' you have to solve from the game. And ..... where do you find in real life a station where you can store all your products waiting for another train to pass? <<<

'When it comes to track design, I struggle to use the new tool at stations with cross-sections. It often does not work as intended.'

>>> Afaik intended is: trains 'search' a free platform (on their route) using the general rule that 'trains take the shortest route'. Isn't that working this way on your lay out when you use a gridiron? <<<

'I have also noticed that when 2 lines use the same track (1 going on each of the ends), new trains will not be summoned for reasons I don't understand.'

>>> ?? <<<

'Finally, trains need way too much of maintenance...............'

>>> Do your maintenance on less congested stations. For each line you'll have to study where you need to do and where you don't want to do your maintenance. In any case don't do it at a main station used by a lot of lines. The same goes for the watertowers. If needed you can use sidings or even special lines to place stations only for maintenance and/or watertowers. There are also items in the tech tree that reduce the need of maintenance, you can reduce the need with 'better' personnel, and be carefull not to use loco's that need a lot of maintenance. Finally there is also an option for each maintenance depot to set the level for the decission to give/not to give maintenance. <<<

doubble-price would be okay for 9-Items-Warehouse and please 3 additions (Store/Passengers/Repair)

- or we have to wait for MOD´s ...
I just wish they would give me signals back :(
