Rename Route with Symbol
By default all routes have that "double arrow" between the stops.
When renaming, this symbol disapears. How to type it again? What Code table are they using for this?

I have wonder the same thing myself, perhaps a Left < followed by a Right >, possibly with a - inbetween them.

Normally it's alt-029. You could use that in RE1. Seems that in RE2 it's not possible. Yes you can use '<->' but that takes 3 positions instead of one.

It is odd how that just disappears. A lot of double spacing between names. And it seems like we have less digits for naming than we did in RE1.
I would like auto-naming to indicate somehow multi-station routes. If you have a train running A- B - C it shouldn't be named A>B or A-C. At least name it A * C instead of A-C so it is possible to find it in the list without custom renaming.

Custom naming also has less letters than the games.

I've been trying to figure this out too. I rename my trains, and in a way its important because it changes the alphabetical order of them.

Usually I want in the Name for a Train Route, the Origin Station and what is picked up there, and then the Station those Goods get delivered to, not the last Station in the Route which could be something else.

That is the most important info usually for that Train, assuming that we only have a limited number of characters to use in the Name.

Same. That is why I rename the rural stations to what they produce. So my stations are usually renamed to something like "Corn/WH" or "Wool/Wheat".

The "↔" symbol is Unicode [1] code point "U+2194 LEFT RIGHT ARROW" [2] [3]

You can select it and copy-paste it into any application that supports Unicode.

FYI, BabelMap/Pad [4] "is a free character map application for Windows that allows you to browse through the entire Unicode character repertoire of nearly 144,000 characters, or search for a particular character by name or by code point."

This is a great suggestion. This is the sort of change that would make for a much better user experience. I wish they could have made more simple improvements like this to RE1 - so many annoyances that would be relatively easy to fix.

If we rename our Source Stations to shorter names (like someone said above), i.e. mostly what they produce, then that frees up more characters for later info in the (Train) Route Name

Thanks for the info and the links.

That's exactly what I do. The 'train-numbers' (line numbers over here) that I use in this game and in most other 'train games' look like this:

301 L-O-B-M-Lp//25Rrc

In which:
3 is the type of train (3=pax Express)
01 is the line number (connection)
L-O-B-M-Lp is the exact route with all the stops (London-Oxford-Birmingham-Manchester-Liverpool)
// indicates that the (following) consist is used at all stations
25Rrc is the consist (min 2 pax cars, max 5 pax cars, diner car, caboose).

It's a lot of work extra if you make a new rail line, but searching for a certain line becomes real fast.

In the 'route section' a nice symbol like '>' and '<->' (and maybe '<') and would be handy as there are two types or routes:

1. A>B>C>D (and after D it starts all over again with A; for a 'circle line');
2. A<->B<->C<->D (for a train that simply runs up and down the line).

If there is not special symbol '>' and '<->' or '<>' can do the job.

So I rename my stations into L, O, B, M, Lp etc. Smaller stations get names like Lg or LW ('London Grain' or 'London Wood'). The line name generated by the game becomes realy short; I use it only to remind me that I'm working on the right line, until I replace the game generated one with my own 'name' of the train.

I would love to see longer 'train names', to make a 'name' like this:

211 L<->M->Lp//24R01Mrc Golden Arrow Express

(Train (line) 211, the 'mixed' express train on line 11 from London to Liverpool with a stop at Manchester (only going north), with min2,max4 pax cars, max 1 mail car, a diner car and a caboose, also known as the famous Golden Arrow Express).
