1. Focus on Copenhagen first. You need to get the population up so that there is a
demand for liquor, tools, then cars. That means pushing as many goods to there as you can. That last 50k-100k population in Copenhagen was a slog for me, too. I just kept checking the demand list to see what was short and pushed another train of those goods in there.
By the time I got to about 200k in population, I found it helpful to have three stations in Copenhagen: one for primary supplies (grain, wood, sugar, vegetables, etc), one for freight from other cities (meat, cloth, planks, tools, cheese, etc.) and one for express. I had a separate rail line just for express from Copenhagen to Naestad to Halmstad and a few other of my "big six" (see below). My network looked like a plate of spaghetti, but I didn't have a lot of back up at Copenhagen.
2. Get as many cities to 40k as early as possible so you can build industries to supply Copenhagen. Nearly all cities have enough stuff nearby to get there without having to bring in stuff from elsewhere. Once they get to 40k, build a factory that makes use of nearby resources -- clay in Vimmersby to make pottery, for example. Start pumping those goods to Copenhagen. Don't push growth too fast with Immigration Offices or Libraries, because they start consuming too many of the goods you have to transport to Copenhagen. Make sure you block goods that Copenhagen needs to grow from going to other cities.
3. Once you get Copenhagen growing well, shift focus to growing five, and only five, other cities by pumping goods into them and getting them to 120k. You will have to keep expanding factories in all cities to keep up with Copenhagen's and the other big five's demands for goods. You have to allow the population to grow to at least 60k, now, in the other cities so you can get production to at least level 3.
4. Your biggest challenge is that there is only one source of Coal on the whole map, east of Halmstad. Buy this as soon as possible so you can expand it at will., because you will need it for steel (then tools, cars, canned goods, toys), chemicals, and pottery.
