Run/jump at Old Church

I am finding it impossible to get across the gap at the Old Church. I cannot seem to run properly at all and always fall short (over 100 attempts now !!). I've seen posts about leaning and I CAN. I have watched demos of this solution and they all seem to leap right to the far edge of the broken stairwell with no problems whereas I fall to floor below every single time !?

seemed pretty easy to me. did you use the ladder and the roof pathway to get around?
