Stupid thing is that wen your inside a building wich you expect to be fine its not, but a half open building or one with huge windows is fine...
Locations which are safe from emissions seem to be explicitly marked in the game assets, not calculated based on attributes. So as people have observed, some locations are safe even though they don't seem to provide much cover, and other locations are not safe even though they seem like they should be.
This means that unless you are pretty sure you KNOW a location which is safe, you should use the quest marker. A location your THINK might be safe, might not be - if you are close to a location you think is safe, and the quest marker doesn't update to that location, that location isn't safe. Because the game assets don't have it marked as safe, and it's the game assets that matter in protecting you from death by emission.
, just be sure to have energy drinks or endurance artifacts ready

i know exactly which one you are talking about thats a ward story mission location is why it worked, that canopy actually opens up during that mission, but a player can still get into it partially for emmisions
thats actually the exact spot my player is at right now on my current playthrough because doors are locked on the mission for it, waiting for a fix
oh ok I was thinking of a hanger location in burnt forest
Thats seems to be the perfect solution.
