What ending is Canon?
Do we know what ending they'll be using as a base for the future DLC?

I'd say Strelok ending. Since Strelok is HIM.
Developers says Skiff ending is canon now.

Where did they say this? I just really want to know the truth.

It's very simple. Beginning of DLC: something has gone terribly wrong in the Zone...take it from there with any of the endings. They're calling the two DLCs story expansions that take place after the end of the current story.

Don't forget, that we have 2 locked locations and Degtyarev chilling somewhere in Pripyat

Skiff ending, project Y (Dr.Kayman’s/faust).
This is the way

Skif's ending is basically being the antagonist of the Stalker franchise.
Definitely, but at the same time it felt like you were doing the right thing leading up to this ending. Kinda paves the way up to a DLC the way SoC led to CS.

Now we're just gonna have a guy kill Skif. Might just be Strelok again lol

I think it's alright to let the old zone legends just die to make way for new legends.

Doctor ending seems the one with the most sequel potential

Maybe explore new places with that new look from anomalous ruin, rather than all those very old labs and factories.
Maybe fight whatever forces Agatha is a representative for. Maybe see new people from further across the land joining good old Duty and Freedom.
None of which is possible, if the Zone is gone (it's just isn't really STALKER anymore), or if Zone is either digital prison (Scar) or actual prison (Strelok).

And no, I don't think after Ward ending something will go wrong and Zone will be unleashed once again. I mean, not like it's completely impossible, but from writing standpoint...
Making colonel going through all this sacrifice arc just for it to be undone and rendered meaningless?

I disagree. It's the one where nobody exploits the Zone. Of course it kinda screws with planet Earth, yet not critically - but all other 3 endings end up granting power to true a-holes with Ward's ending being the absolute worst, since Agatha proceeds to turn the planet into a totalitarian hellhole with no free will, basically making everyone Monolith, starting with Skif.

Scar and Strelok turn the Zone into a prison with one prison just having nicer colors.

You were doing the right thing though. At least with all the options you had.
After all the Zone is most definitely a sentient being with a very alien mind humans can barely understand, kinda gives off massive Clarke/Asimov/golden age of Sci Fi vibe where the superintelligence of seemingly unintelligent was a theme being explored.

So all three factions wanted to imprison and exploit it, while having zero understanding of it, and you end up setting it free and, coincidentally, for a lot more stories of humanity dealing with what is a superbeing that is neither malevolent, nor benevolent.

I think it gives a lot of creative freedom to future installments should they happen without hurting the mystique.

The one thing about the Project Y ending that I'm not particularly excited for is the potential of going to a "different Zone". The Zone is like Kamurocho in the Yakuza series, it's as much a part of the game as the characters. Thinking on it, it's even more so in STALKER since the Zone is the only common thread between all four games.

While the rest of the endings are pretty "final" - to the point where I think Project Y is the only realistic option to be canon - I do hope that future games stay around the CNPP.

It will be interesting to see what form the DLC take; pre-ending extra content as Skif, post-credit content as... someone, or maybe even an expansion of sorts as they did with the first game, since the game is - mostly - built and "all" they'd have to do is add story.

I understand why they may want to not pigeonhole themselves into staying in the Chornobyl zone, but I completely agree. If they try to do a zone anywhere else in the world it just wouldn't feel right. I don't want to play STALKER: LA. The zone is the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. It might be a cool thing for modders, but mainline entries? Hell no.

Given the unexplored map areas, I'm sure we'll be at the CNPP for the DLC. Maybe even Limansk eventually? The story definitely opened the door for a worldwide zone, but boy I hope we stay in Ukraine.

Pretty soon there won't be anything left to explore in the current Zone we have. They will HAVE to put it somewhere else.
