Flashlight shadows are terrible.
Is there a way to turn them off or just get rid of them(?),because the way that the devs implemented them they look horrible and look like they are floating next the object not on a surface behind it.

Pretty sure it's just an optical illusion where the position and angle of the lamp matches very close to that of the viewer. It's not actually floating.

They are just floating black bars, specially with ladders. Horrible. At least Silent Hill got it right…

sounds like static shadows and not soft shadows

same problem

Yeah some shadows, reflections and light rays are completely broken. I have had random shadows all over a scene that were not even related to objects in that scene and light shafts shining through the side of a hill.

Some shiny floors have been shimmering like millions of bugs crawling around, which is very distracting and immersion killing. Along with having issues with HDR where sometimes it works, then I have loaded up the game and everything is completely washed out and it just looks 'wrong' as if almost all shadows for plants etc on the ground are gone. I also had severe OLED flicker due to inconsistent FPS and frame times, beyond anything I have had in any other game, I had to disable VRR to make it so the game wasn't flashing like a disco lol

I am glad they are putting out big patches and when this game is good it is REALLY good but holy hell have I had a lot of technical issues to deal with.

Holy heck they are bad. Shadows with bad anti aliaising or that look very pixellated.

Edit: Getting Unreal Engine 5 crashing now too.

I'm out. Should have never purchased this game.

my pc cant handle this cast shadows, and this looks awful on low settings, why i cant just disable them on medium/low settings

They should have separated them from the other shadow settings. It looks like some weird occlusion effect more than a shadow, because it's effecting edges of things. It looks better if shadows are set to Epic, but a lot of people have their shadows lower, so it just looks like crap. I think they should have just left this one alone for now. Although... people asked for it.
I'm not sure why flashlight shadows was a big thing to address... why didn't they fix the flashlight to begin with? It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Fisher Price ass Happy Meal toy ass flashlight.

People complained that there wasn’t any shadows from the flashlight, and this is what they get for complaining and it ruins others experience like me because the horrible floating shadows are now bugging me. It was just fine the way it, because it’s not like I looked at everything and say to myself there aren’t any shadows from the flashlight and that’s because I was too busy actually playing the game to even notice.

Someone did not play the first Stalker... flashlight shadows can be extremely athmospheric. Especially in dark and grimmy games like Stalker where you constantly use a flashlight. Outside ? yeah no need for that but as soon as you enter a dark bunker/lab ? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it good. Go into a dark basement or room full of objects (real life) turn on only your flashlight and you will see. Moving shdows caused by your flashlight will often give you the illusion/feeling that something that lives is moving etc. Its a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good feature for horror like games if implemented correctly. So yeah, we have every right to ask for such a feature because the benefits are worth it. Your statement shows me that you never paid attention to or played a game with such a feature. Sadly, the shadows in Stalker 2 now look terrible but again, it could be a fantastic feature.

Yes, it definitely looks bad, but the shadows themselves are not the issue; this is a problem with the droplight perspective.

When I read the notes that flashlight shadows had been added I was excited. I have epic settings and all I get are black textures rendered flat against the back of anything my torchlight hits. No shadow cast onto a wall behind said object. There are no shadows cast at all. Just more textures added to assets. Very disappointing. I expected real time ray tracing of my feeble child's head torch. Or something thereabouts.
Flashlight shadows don't work here at all
I was disapointed also, its not really a improvment, and i dont get why they implemented it like this, might have been better to just leave it out, but maybe they improve it later as they mentioned they wanted to make Lumen use Hardware Raytracing.
