Companions??
Yes or no?

this would mean outside of characters as a part of a mission it would seem there is no follower mechanic

Some characters will side with you for a period, but that's about it.

Developer stated "no". Just how blanket that "no" is, we don't know yet.

Devs stated "no" to permanent companions. I think you can have companions for certain quests

A stalker with friends? I think not. The zone is all we need...

wait for mods for that one i would guess.

Temporary only for certain things, no permanent companions of any kind.

Only companion I need is my Krink.

Even temporary allies are usually so selectively stupid that fallout 4 reminds me of stalker, and not the other way around.

If anyone ever tells you "It would make the game too easy! It would ruin the atmosphere!" They are just trying to misdirect you from the fact friendly (or even neutral) coded AI in their last game goes from able to easily snipe down at you from a ledge. To incapable of aiming a machinegun lower than knee height, so a group of Duty mercs all die to a couple hamsters (the stalker equivalent of mole rats) they saw coming from 200 feet away.

Which is why when preston can't aim down to hit a ghoul I shot both legs off of for him to make it easier to feed him a kill for giggles, I am reminded of stalker.

This is why I also have a love for the pump action shotguns even with access to a fully upgraded drum shotgun in stalker. because in CoP you reload the riot shotgun slightly slower. And I need that extra 0.2 second edge on reload-shoot from empty speed to not watch my named allies die to snorks like a dumbass in a tunnel trip to pripyat.

I am guessing there's companions that will stay with you forever...until they die. So no immortal companions like some of the ones we had in Skyrim.

Any chance there will be a dog companion mod?

if the ai is anything like the other games no companion would survive navigating anomalies

No, the devs said on their discord that there will not be permanent companions, no pet dog, nothing like that. There will be temporary companions as in how during the opening part of the first game when you help Wolf you get some back up to take on a bandit camp that disbands after.

Lol it they would be just burden. Remember doing the TOZ guest for Hip in Cordon and after that she wanted to escort somewhere like Jupiter or Zaton... lets say i didnt enjoy babysit her. Companions in games like this are really bad idea.

i mean i disagree, the whole reason for me to buy the game in the first place is if there is a option for a companion. nothing i hate more than to play a open world game and it feel like im a 1 man army. i wanna feel like im experiencing the horrors with someone else despite it being a real player or npc. idc if the companion is useless, as long as im not facing the world alone. feels empty to me otherwise.

Then STALKER is not for you. Being all alone in the zone is part of the whole experience. Yeah running into people at a base or camp is nice and makes it all the more a welcome break from the horrors you witness when you do come across one, but having someone with you all the time kind of ruins the experience and atmosphere. It's why I won't be using multiplayer when that is released.

Also you will not be a one man army. If you try it out on gamepass you will realize this is not a power fantasy game. It's an immersive survival horror. Like any post USSR country commie block in winter it's bleak and depressing.
