If anyone ever tells you "It would make the game too easy! It would ruin the atmosphere!" They are just trying to misdirect you from the fact friendly (or even neutral) coded AI in their last game goes from able to easily snipe down at you from a ledge. To incapable of aiming a machinegun lower than knee height, so a group of Duty mercs all die to a couple hamsters (the stalker equivalent of mole rats) they saw coming from 200 feet away.
Which is why when preston can't aim down to hit a ghoul I shot both legs off of for him to make it easier to feed him a kill for giggles, I am reminded of stalker.
This is why I also have a love for the pump action shotguns even with access to a fully upgraded drum shotgun in stalker. because in CoP you reload the riot shotgun slightly slower. And I need that extra 0.2 second edge on reload-shoot from empty speed to not watch my named allies die to snorks like a dumbass in a tunnel trip to pripyat.
No, the devs said on their discord that there will not be permanent companions, no pet dog, nothing like that. There will be temporary companions as in how during the opening part of the first game when you help Wolf you get some back up to take on a bandit camp that disbands after.
Then STALKER is not for you. Being all alone in the zone is part of the whole experience. Yeah running into people at a base or camp is nice and makes it all the more a welcome break from the horrors you witness when you do come across one, but having someone with you all the time kind of ruins the experience and atmosphere. It's why I won't be using multiplayer when that is released.
Also you will not be a one man army. If you try it out on gamepass you will realize this is not a power fantasy game. It's an immersive survival horror. Like any post USSR country commie block in winter it's bleak and depressing.
