I dunno why it has to be asked tho.
If you interested in the lore look it up.
But yes, you can play the game without knowing anything about it.
But there will be a lot of stuff that will hit differently if you played the original games, as it plays in the same place and probably will have some returning characters.
The OG game, played in 2012 and devs said this one Is current time so Id thats the case 12 years time a lot of stuff could happen in the Zone.
Stalker 2 tells a new story, so you don't need knowledge from the previous titles.
If you are interested in the lore, you should watch videos where it is explained. It's easy to miss some details during a playtrough.
SoC: You're "Marked One", waking up after being brainwashed by C-Consciousness and your mission is to hunt a stalker named Strelok, only to eventually find out that you're actually Strelok, so your mission pretty much changes into find a way to the center of the zone and ♥♥♥♥ over C-Consciousness, and the canon ending is that you kill all the scientist involved in the project, they're the ones that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ things up by doing tests on the noosphere or "informational/human consciousness field of the earth" (this story really goes to places), "2nd game" canonically in the series.
CoP: You're an agent sent to evac some important people out of the zone and you'll do it, one of those people is Strelok, this is the "3rd game" canonically in the series.
CS: Prequel to SoC and "1st game" canonically in the series, You're "Scar", a mercenary that gets hit by an emission in the intro cutscene and you survive it, normally people become zombies because of it but you're an exception and the clear sky has missions for you, one is to hunt Strelok who's trying to reach the center of the zone in order to find the wish granter / monolith, you eventually fail in this mission, Strelok becomes brainwashed by the c-consciousness and apparently scar survives this ordeal because he appears in STALKER2, but not in SoC or CoP.
The game is a completely standalone experience - albeit with some ties to the previous games - so newcomers can jump onboard and experience a brand-new story with original characters and a new map to explore. Even S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's multiple endings will make sense to those who've never touched a game in the series before. So, those who are excited to experience the best parts of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 can do so without feeling like they won't know what's going on."
who cares about some boring story? read a book....
