Looking forward to seeing all the stalker 2 assets in mod packs for the older games in the future.

How do you think stuff like weapons/items/textures/sounds/models get in to those games?

I think the older mods are effectively toast.

"But but but ..." you will say. You will say that people love those old mods.

True. But those mods running on the old engine really are extremely limited compared to modern engines.

I expect that people will take the SEEMLESS OPEN WORLD (no loading screens!) of STALKER 2, and do mods on that. And will not look back any longer at the older engine that required the world to be cut up into chunks, with what we judge today as terrible visual quality.

It happens all the time. People import all sorts of models and textures into other games (L4D2 for example)

Sorry, but you're completely wrong. There are people that know the x ray engine inside and out that are not just going to quit making mods for the older games or mod packs utilising open x ray just because there is 2.

We will likely see a lot more new folk making mods for 2 though. But that is only if we have good enough mod tools. Unreal engine 5 isn't very mod friendly without tools so I wouldn't be expecting anything substantial for quite a while.

The source engine was a bit of a different beast all together than the UE engine, which is why the steam video maker thing is so widely used for "All" purposes and can host pretty much every asset from any game. UE doesn't have that same level of openness.

I don’t think anyone is going to try to import anything from Xray into UE5.

You'd be WIDELY surprised what people attempt to do in the name of mods to save time/effort.

I've never made a mod for xray or the better 64bit version but I've used many mods that use assets from other games. The only real barrier would be getting the stuff out of 2 to work with. Mod tools will make this easier but there are always ripper tools.

I thought this thread was about pulling assets from S2 and putting them into the older titles, not the other way around.

Those people will continue playing their own mods, and find that their audience is massively reduced. Because 99% of active players will move on, and play the new game, and then if they look back at the earlier modded games, their reaction will be a combination of nostalgia combined with "blech". And there will be new players who play the new game who never played any of the older games. Playtime in the older modded games will drop by 100% (rounded).

If the modders in question are actually active modders and not just operating as maintainers, they will pivot quickly and take the OPPORTUNITY to work with the new platform.
