Any ideas on how to unlock steam dl speed?
Okay so we know we aren't going to get a preload and whenever I download a game on steam I get 10mb/s which is going to take a while to download S2... is there any way I can unlock faster dl speed for steam? I just tested my actual download speed and I should be able to download close to 200mb/s (195.35 mb/s average download speed to be exact), yet steam only lets me download at 10mb/s even when having the dl speed set unlimited in the settings, is it possible steam is throttling me? Naturally I want to get S2 downloaded asap when we can.

One thing might help. Go to https://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/ , choose a server which is close to you and have low amount of downloads, then go to steam-settings-downloads and change download region

Steam/Settings/Download and check if the download speed is capped, if yes - uncap it.

If not, change the download server to something else and try again.

Thats the only thing i can say. I usually get fullspeed on steam but i am downloading from the german server which is fast.

Is that a fact that we won't get a pre-load? That's sad

STEAM will not download faster than your hard drive can write. If you are certain you have more than 10MB's worth of download speed, check where you are downloading the game. I only ever had speeds those low with STEAM when I was saving to old SSD's. On an NVME, I don't expect this game to take more than half an hour or so to download.

Its not a fact, but there hasn't been any news about from the devs.

You are right!
Damn i forgot that there are still people rocking HDDs for gaming.

OP please use an SSD, its required anyway unless you want pop in and freezes/stutters and looooooong loading times.

Are you using a SSD? What sites are you using to test your internet? Most of them are fake and spoof your speed, I recommend using google's test. Also are you sure you're not getting confused between MB and Mb because 200Mb/s is 25MB/s which is a lot closer to the 10MB/s mark you said. I don't ever get throttled by steam and lets me download at 100+MB/s

I've seen numerous devs confirmations on it now, some dev/admin posting here on an older "no preloads?" steampost as well as a discord screenshot confirming no preload.

Don't confuse mbbits/sec and mo/sec basically if you have 1000 mbits/sec you will download between 90/100 mo/sec

Otherwise try changing your Steam download region

Hard drives can do more than 10. Don't even know what SSD must be to be slower than HDD.
