PSA: Do not go into this expecting the GAMMA/Anomaly STALKER experience
A friend and I were discussing this. We agreed that a lot of people will be blinded by the fact that the age old first game and all of its standalone additions were combined into one game with a massive map and an IMMENSE amount of weapons, customization options and huge changes to factions and ongoing faction combats in the world... all of these things were not part of the Vanilla experience, and were compiled over time to eventually culminate in the Anomaly mod and eventually the G.A.M.M.A. mod pack.

Expecting STALKER 2 to be anything like those will result in disappointment. HOWEVER, seeing as they are fully onboard with full mod support, it's likely that we'll see similar mods drastically overhauling the game in the future. I know we've all been waiting for this for years. I'm excited, but I also know what I'm getting into. With what's been showcased, STALKER 2 will have one of the best foundations for a game of this type. We will have one hell of a playground. Enjoy it. It will only get better with time and effort from the modding community.

I've said my piece. Most of this comes from my friend anyway. I'm pretty well just parroting his viewpoints. BUT. He's right.

As it is right now this game looks like a Metro-Clone which Metro was a Stalker clone so we have went full circle like Ouroboros

Project lead said they've been playing a ton of both. Think real can recognise when comes to the builders.

Think is just that as the moderator said, it makes more sense to appeal to a broader audience with a more focused scope and reduced dev time, then let mods that cater for specific sections of the player base fill the void where appropriate and technically possible.

Bringing any expectactions in is always a bad idea. Just forget everything and take the game for what it is, not what you want it to be. And either buy it or not.

There will always be thousand people, all wanting their expectactions based on different memories and perception of the past be met. Never a good thing. Live in reality. Bring nothing.

I've got thousands of hours in previous versions of the game, and if I can't get thousands of hours out of STALKER 2 then it's just objectively complete and utter trash tyvm. /s

Tbh i hated the base stalker games except prip which was even then only just ok. Mods really changed everything.

I couldn't get past the jank in the originals. Anomaly, and GAMMA fixed the jank. I don't like all of what is in the mods, but at least I can play them.

Exactly! Damn, I wish everyone had our mindset. Let's all just wait for the game to release and buy it and enjoy it for what it is. It's their game to create - we have no say in it - so if we don't like it then we can just go play something else, simple as that, no crying. I for one have no idea what this game is supposed to be like, I haven't watched a single video, I have no preconceived expectations, but I'm buying it no matter what cuz it's STALKER.

When i saw anomaly on somewhere i wanted to play it, because of the atmosphere. but i felt if i did that i should also play the trilogy, so i bought the trilogy pack.

ive enjoyed all of them and i really dont see why people feel that anomaly is so very different, sure gamma has quite a few mods that go beyond the original feel, but that wasnt my experience with anomaly. all it did was sandbox it really, but for me, it was all the same atmosphere, the same feel. and from what they showed so far, this is going to give that atmosphere too and thats good for me.

Hopefully the fights and shootouts are intense. Not sure if they will make the mutants very tanky tho
One YouTuber who had a chance to play the game at GSC studios, described the mutants as "bullet sponges".
They were bullet sponges in the original too depending on what you were fighting and what you were using. Shotguns were for mutants and rifles were zombies and people. Handguns also were for mutants but only 45 and up.

Anomaly and Gamma are both trash. If you want that experience, Stalker is not for you.
the problem with these mods is that they're the brainrot of this community, not that they're bad.

This is why I never cared to delve deep into any community. People who try to pretend like they're acting in the interest of a nebulous community are the worst.

They're just upset it made Stalker go mainstream and they have to hear "Can someone explain lore" "Where do i buy gamma" "how can i turn off durability" "do the original games matter" Same type of guy who probably gets mad if you mod minecraft. "No we kill the ender dragon and thats it we have to follow the story!"

I'm fine with a good game going mainstream. Means it gets more purchases, usually. Bigger following. More funding, new game. GSC went through hell, in several layers, to get this out. They have my respect for going the distance to get this made. As such, I pre-ordered. Am I part of the problem? Probably. Do I care? No. I'm down to support these devs. They worked hard, in the middle of a worst-case scenario. They can have my money.

Stalker 2 took a lot of inspiration from Anomaly anyway:
- placement of anomalies changing when emittions happen
- Food and Drink etc. animations plus backpack animation when going into inventory
- upgrade system for guns and armor
- real time attachment system
and probably more
I would say it will be very much like Anomaly but not GAMMA
anomalies changing after an emission is not a new thing with anomaly, this was literally a plot point in call of pripyat

Did you even play the games? Yes, it is a plot point, because LORE wise it does happen. They wanted that in all the games from the start, but it never actually made it in. Anomalies don't change locations in any of the base games.
Crally Nov 15, 2024 @ 9:12am
But if I don't preorder and they run out of digital copies i wont be able to play?
