100's of thousands of rats bug
I updated to the lastest Win 11 24H2 KB5048685 build and saw fps issues so I rolled back the update
I loaded the game back up where I saved it in Pripyat.
I used a guide to travel to Yaniv to access my inventory next to the bed there
I wanted to use the guide in Yaniv to travel back to Pripyat but he wasn't there. The icon is there but he's not standing where he's supposed to be.
I made my way back to the area with the tornado anomaly -FPS tanks to 20-
I troubleshoot the issue first by reinstalling the KB5048685 update -same problem
I follow these steps from the windows support site

sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

-Same problem

I reinstall the latest Nvidia driver -same problem
I finally decide to just say ♥♥♥♥ it and try to push through the FPS issue and get back to Pripyat through the tunnel and finally see that the issue is with what has to be all of the rats in the game spawned in one place at the very entrance to the tunnel which is what was killing the FPS.

I don't know how many rats spawn in a single simulation of rats, but there was enough of them to bottleneck my CPU to the point where the game became a slideshow. Ultimately, I just loaded up a previous save where I was already in Pripyat but now I'm stuck with the KB5048685 update because it's no longer available to rollback, so the FPS issues it brings will remain until whomever fixes the issue, but the main problem is the insane amount of rats blocking the tunnel. It took 8 grenades to remove them and the FPS jumped up to 40, but there's something about that tunnel that's killing my frames.

Normally I get 90 - 150 fps with no major issues depending on the scene. Yes I use mods, but they weren't an issue until after I left Pripyat and tried to get back. I only have one AI mod (Novichok's AI Overhaul) and I'm posting on the nexus page for it to see if it's related.

You have one AI mod
Now, why would a cpu bottlenecking be related to AI behavior?

This question is unrelated to my mod
It might be related to corrupted cache or (drumroll) your cpu :D

There's nothing wrong with my CPU and why would a corrupted cache spawn up thousands of rats?

You clearly didn't understand what I meant by 100's of thousands of rats. Whether that's the actual amount is irrelevant. Rat swarm on top of rat swarm on top of rat swarm all in one spot.

That has nothing to do with my CPU and probably nothing to do with your mod either, I was just asking (drumroll) to cover all my bases.

Thanks for reminding me that even modders who seemingly do things altruistically can still be absolutely unbearable to deal with (drumroll) because of their ego.

I suggest visiting the nearest trader and stocking up on poison or sticky traps!

PS: THAT is a ****ed up bug; hope you get it sorted!

lol yea, I just reloaded a earlier save and I'm just going to avoid the area.

Same issue for me. The tunnel is filled with rats and not even 20 grenades cleaned it up.

Those rats spawn all the time after killing them all. Some seconds later they spawn again if idle in the same area. Nothing to do with neither cpu nor mod.

K.
So I thought this was some in game curse. Cause I found this armor on a corpses in a little cave, that gives a descriptions that says gives me the heebie jeebies. I thought it was to do with that. But clearly not as they still come after me lol unless it’s to do with the wild island area 😂🤣

You can take out rat swarms with grenades, just jump on top of something so they can't get to ya
DAMN, sounds like A Plague Tale all over again. Must have been Hugo! LOL
