Why won't this game let me reduce resolution?
My monitor is 4K. My desktop is set to 4K.
When i try to change / lower the resolution down to 1440p to get better performance the setting goes back to 4K the moment i exit the menu.

Is this a bug? is there a workaround?

I have the same issue, and came here to make a post of my own, but I will just tag along here :-P

I tried to download the NVIDIA App, and get that to force through 1920x1080, but it does not work. It states in the app itself that it is Full HD, but it is not when you go in-game, then it has reverted back to 4K. I have also looked into modding the game and just getting a resolution mod on the Nexus, but I would like to complete the game first to experience it as it is meant to before that. Once I start modding it doesn't take long until all enemies are female and have big bazongas :-P

I may look into, as it were in other games, altering permissions for the folders which the files tied to game information resides in. It works when you mod Skyrim for instance, otherwise it will revert back to prior instances between games, when you restart the Vortex mod manager for example; if the permissions are "read only".

Edit: After checking the .cfg files in the appdata/local folder it states that the game is in 1920x1080, so the changes are saved, but it still appears to be 4K listed in the game settings, and my game does indeed run as if it were in 4K (I can feel it immediately as I only have a 3070 8 GB VRAM card, and it runs like a** in 4K)
Edit2: I honestly do not know what happened, and if it is indeed what I did just now, or simply because of a restart of the computer and the Nvidia app or whatever.

I started the Nvidia app today and it had gone over to 2550x1440 for some reason; I have never had a screen that size. So I changed it to 1920x1080 in the app. Before that I went into the "users/"yourname"/appdata/local/stalker2" - folder and unticked "read only" and saved it. Could be a coincidence, but who the heck knows at this point? XD

U could use TSR and resolution scaling...

I'm using DLSS upscaling alreadyy but for performance i want to drop to 1440p and still use DLSS.

Or is TSR resolution scaling something difrerent?

Actually i turned mine down to 720p and it definitely has reduced the render resolution but the setting still reads as 4K.

So i think it does work its just not updating the setting

TSR is sharpest in s2 imo.
Upscalers use different input reso by defaul anyways, DLSS performace should use 720p anyways. I dont see the point of ur struggle if ure using upscaler already.
