I had the same issue, have you tried going to a camp ground and see if it lets ya pull it out? i never tried it, but I seen other loners do that

you need to sit down near a fire and then you will be able to play the guitar or choose it via TAB button with radial menu

The implementation of the guitar is badly done. :(

Better would have been if Skif can find notesheets in the gameworld and play the newly learned songs at the campfire. Maybe he already knows one or two songs right from the start.

The way it is now remembers me of my sorry trials at guitar hero. ^^

It is implemented great you can actually play covers of popular songs
