How do I remove the death counter????
It is a stupid metric that I should be able to remove. I continually have to ask why developers make amazing games only to put some idiotic metric in there to ruin the fun?

It discourages experimentation and exploration, and honestly easily 90% of my deaths are due to some stupid bug, dumb exploration prevention wall (I'm talking about random insane radiation that instakills you) or the fact that if you fall from more than 10 feet you die in this game. Give me a slider, a switch, or something because it is frustrating in the extreme to have died to some random bug or BS only for the game to be like, "Oh look, you died and it's all your fault!"

Speaking of which, the fall damage needs a desperate rework and no I shouldn't have to download mods to fix things that the devs screwed up. Simple fix for fall damage: make it 10% of what it is now. Problem solved, problem staying solved. If I have to, essentially, cheat and download a mod, that's not how bugs as glaring as one where you die from jumping off the equivalent of ten feet, literally something I do on a daily basis, work.

Worse is that I have literally 3 runs in this game and two people playing different saves and the death counter persists.

I'd very much like to avoid having to cheat (Mods) to fix the game.

They should have the death counter be a part of the UI that's always hovering over the center of your screen as you play :steamhappy:

First Stalker game? I have sessions where I die five times within an hour, depending on what I'm doing. Part of life in the Zone, stalker. Death counters means absolutely nothing. Reevaluate your mindset because the Zone is a merciless place.

im sure you could ask some modder on the discord nicely to make a mod to remove it?

Apparently nothing else to be bothered by I guess.

I'm over 100hrs in and have no idea nor do i care how many deaths I've had up to this point (100 plus probably) to bothered that I want back in game to even look.

mods aren't cheats and cheats aren't mods

some mods are cheats, but not all

OP thinks that mods are only for cheating, he is an idiot.
Been modding my games for a very long time. QoL improvements, graphics overhauls, scripting mods with added quests, balance overhauls....
Never in my life i've thought playing any game and making myself miserable to the point i would make a thread about comparing modding a game to cheating.

It can get frustrating at times I guess because you know you can make it but stupid deaths happen sometimes. At least it doesn’t affect anything in game nor any endings.
agreed. the perfectionist in me kinda hates it but i just let it go since skiff ankle constitution is like -10

I think one of the stupidest deaths I've had yet was making the mistake of trusting Faust on top of the radio antennas when he offered help climbing up.

There is an achievement for that but it was still a pain in the ass to go back and have to do all that again.
