Passcode Stashes

Are the passcodes for such stashes always within the vicinity of the code door? Or are you supposed to find the code elsewhere on the map? I've only found the code to a door once. Every other time I'm turning the place upside down with no luck.

Sometimes codes are far away. I remember one stash with code on the corpse with tablet PC like 500 me from the stash.
In Pripyat there is a stash that you need to compose from 8 different tablet PC found through entire game.
But in most cases code is somewhere nearby, not further than 100 meters.

sometimes it is a case of two out of three in the same building or doorsteps of the building, and then the 3rd one is "some other basement lousy with mutants" not that I can even remember which one that was.

The above CoP example is also how you unlock one of the strongest named guns in the game, even if it is pretty overkill to make you run around that much before it magically appears at the end.
