Stuck north of yaniv (spoiler warning)

After using the M scanner to go through the tunnel to the side of yaniv by the tornado I got stuck on the other side. Is there an intended way to cross back if you choose not to give the M scanner to the leader at yaniv? or am i fu'd because you have to give the scanner to him If so it seems dumb to even imply the player has a choice by giving two obj makers one being optional. I read a reddit post from a guy who jumped the fence to get back over but got stuck again and has to cheat every time to cross and naturally i don't wanna have to deal with that but to reload that far back would be a massive pain in the ass.

I've opened Pripyat only a single time, and like you I chose to go thru the tunnel. I then fast-traveled back to southern areas using the guide in Pripyat. I don't remember the precise order of events or who I interacted with and what the choices were, but I do remember that the next time I visited Yaniv, the guard at the north-door was gone, and that door was now unlocked.

EDIT: I didn't go southward until I had completed the quest step to help the defenders in Pripyat and speak to the leader there. I would not surprise me if completing this part of the quest was what unlocked the north-door in Yaniv.

I believe after you meet the guys in Pripyat you are free to come and go through the main door, at least it is that way in my experience.
