Should 5.56 ammo be more common among enemies??
Trying to keep it short:

I feel that most ammo types are common enough among enemies, that you can rely on looting corpses to keep a good ammo supply your weapon of choice... EXCEPT maybe 5.56 NATO,

(Stress on CORPSES. Enemies are a "renewable resource" in game, loot laying around is not.)

- 5.45 ammo basically grow on trees, and they feed both early and some late game guns (good).
- Same with shotgun shells.
- 9x18, 9x19 and .45 rounds are fairly common too.
- 9x39, 7.62, .308 and such are rarer, but that makes sense since those are supposed to feed mid-late game guns.

HOWEVER, even a low damage, "early game rated" 5.56 gun such as the HK416 is kinda rare among common enemies. Too rare to reliably grant at least a partial ammo resupply after a random firefight.

As a consequence, I've been using all kind of guns without ever feeling a shortage of ammo... Except 5.56 ones. HK416s and GP37s have been laying in my chest, because why would I use them, If there are equal or better guns whose ammo I will find much more often on enemies?

In conclusion: more random enemies should have at least a basic 5.56 gun.

The Kharod has an upgrade that converts it to 5.45 ammo, the damage and everything stays the same as far as I can tell too. Been a great upgrade, no issues having ammo on hand.

The arbitrary weapon and ammo tiering system should just get abolished.

Indeed. But ammo availability is a parallel yet different matter.

Just sell all those extra ammo types if you never use em, they're worth a lot if you let em add up.

yes I too have noticed that the 5.56 is difficult to get, I would use things like the GP37 more if it was easier to get

Found that always to be in canon with the game world. The Zone is set in Eastern Europe, so there is an abundance of former warsaw pact ammunition and weapons, while the Western stuff is on short supply and mostly used by Western mercs.

Edit: Was the same in earlier Stalker games. The Western stuff showed only up in numbers in the later part of the games.

Try explaining that to the ones who are trying to force the devs to make this game like Fortnite and Far Cry.

Which is an excellent option. Unfortunately, still there's little to no point in using HK416 or G36/GP37

Which makes sense lore wise. But then, why give to the HK416 artificially crappy, low tier damage and pen stats?

Kinda been selling all my older weapons that have since been superseded by new weapons, they're worth a lot. Helps with upgrading newer stuff, also found the Diamond Exoskeleton recently and was able to upgrade everything except 1 thing, but at least it can sprint and 4/5 slots are lead shielded. :)

Yeah, I get what you mean. I personally prefer to keep unique items even if they're obsolete, for collection purposes.

I'm just a bit disappointed that "natural progression" brought me from Viper, to Buket, to "Combatant" AK, to Fora (Decider - Lullaby)... Now I've found a unique 5.45 Grom with 3 bars penetration and a pre-installed rail. It will probably carry me until very late game... And in the meantime, the minor availability of ammo made me not even touch NATO rifles, except for some occasional pick-up. It feels like wasted effort, having such nice rifles, and not using them due to economic/logistic convenience...
