Of course it probably wouldn't suck as much if it didn't break so frequently, but the load time is just obnoxious for such a small boost in quality/performance.
in my case it took 3 tries.
who knows when it will get fixed, just have to wait or keep trying.

For me the shader cache wasn't even created.
But why does it take SO LONG to compile shaders?? They need to eliminate this screen & jump right into the games menu.
Never mind. The game crashed again on this blasted screen again. 🤔
Let's see if that worked. I also cleaned the direct x cache as recommended above.
On Windows 10.
That's effectively how I fixed this one and most other games that hang for various reasons when compiling shaders. I'd imagine most of the time you can get away with this rather than reinstalling the game. Even deleting your shader cache probably isn't necessary if you have enough patience to keep trying to restart (or don't want to clear your compiled shaders for other games), but it seems to frequently choke if a previous compilation of shaders was interrupted.
