Very generally the various SEVA suits with built-in masks & helmets offer better environmental protection than military armours but worse physical protection. The best of the bunch appears to be the SEVA-I suit which offers excellent anomaly protection as well as decent physical protection.
As soon as you get to Yaniv station you can obtain a Diamond exoskeleton which personally I think is the best armour in the game, offering maximum physical protection and also excellent anomaly protection. Most of the exoskeletons are good though, with some offering unique performance enhancements e.g. a 20% increase in weapon accuracy.
In relation to suit + helmet versus all-in-1 suit options, I've not come across a helmet that offered such good protection that it convinced me to go with suit + helmet as opposed to an all-in-1 option, especially when the Bulat armour is available as soon as you get to the garbage.
