They would also need to do some miracles in terms of optimization as the game is currently terrible on that front, especially frame times. Nobody would bother playing an online mode with this much input latency, a multiplayer in these conditions is DOA.
As Big Black mentioned this is a CP77 situation, biting way more than they can chew here. They promised a lot and may have had great plans for an online mode, but technical aspects and development constraints will likely force them to cancel that.
Honestly I'd be impressed if they manage to release any single player paid expansion at all. I don't even see that happening given the current disastrous state of the game and how slow the patches are flowing (they fix a lot, but it actually doesn't amount to much when the biggest glaring technical issues are still there, and likely forever).
Yeah, hahaha, that's what I mean by really fixing the game, it is extremely painful to watch it whenever you sprint, check out those animation while holding a gun, it's clear they're using the rendered model that you see holding the gun to cast those shadows instead of turning that shadow off and using an invisible model to cast a shadow while communicating with the main animation when to run secondary animations for the shadow.
