Slug ammo worth against mutants
Can I use slug ammo to kill mutants? It have the same damage/penetration on mutants than buckshots?

Yes, I know they are much more expensive, but some shotguns have upgrades that make them much more powerful when they accept only slug-type ammunition.

Slug is so you can pull off head shots if you stumble face-first into bandits. I prefer a RAM with buck . Closest thing to the street sweeper until they release it in $DLC.

Most damage on mutants comes from expansive rounds. They are pretty rare and costly. But 2 shots max to a bloodsucker on Veteran of expansive rounds vs several more of buckshot. Stopped using slugs. Regular and expansive.

Yes expansive rounds don't require you to aim and do a wonderful job but are super rare. You can doubletap a RAM for 4x buck instantly and so long as you're point blank you will make bloodsucker coleslaw.
I find sorta underwhelming, and imo buckshot works just fine especially in saiga against anything.

i always and I mean always headshot a bloodsucker when dead on the floor, its so satisfying to see that head shake from the bullet impact and the tentacles flapping about.

Yeah not many early vendors or npcs drop expansive rounds. They may not show up until a certain story progressive, I am not sure. The later vendors you meet do start to carry them. I always buy them when I see them for sale. In an upgraded Saiga they will destroy any mutant. Only way to deal with a pseudogiant or Chimera quickly is with expansive rounds. You can get them for other weapons to. Rhino with expansive rounds is very nice against a pseudogiant if you can get in a elevated position with line of sight.

A rhino with 9x39 expansive rounds Works nice too. Throw on the 2x Zoom scope to take on Burers.

Shotgun ram with buckshot cheaper

Only problem with the Rhino is that it's not good for close range and fast moving targets. Plus it's only 6 rounds and take forever to reload. You can get destroyed at close range reloading that thing, especially since you cant move quickly and reload in this game.

Yaniv sells the good stuff. Saiga is a great shotgun but I prefer the RAM for its ability to sweep a room.

Depends on the mutant. Only the really beefy ones have high enough damage resistance for it to really make a big difference.

I will admit... I tried to solo a Chimera with the RAM and you will not win before needing to flee and reload. Those things are stupid OP and need to be sniped then cheezed.

You can't go head to head with the Chimera wih any weapon or ammo type. On Veteran it is ridiculous level of health points. You have to be able to reload and avoid its attack multiple times even with extended mags. That mutant can also jump up on things to get you, so even some elevation is not ideal.

Thanks for all reply, but I think my question wasn’t fully understood.

My question is whether slug ammo has at least the same damage as buckshot on mutants.

I just ran some tests, and it seems like it does.

When it comes to mutants, slugs are good against pseudogiants and chimeras, since they have a high armor stat. For everything else use expanding.
