The vendors are quite late game, Yantar trader sells Velez, which is best detector in the game. I believe Sidorovich is selling the basics one but I'm not able to verify this right now. I'm pretty sure you get one or two as part of main quest line but it is rather late.
Not sure if there's a better scanner.
Also can remember finding a decent scanner (Hilka Detector) from a sidequest on one of those grounded ships in the swamps. That one has a number that gets smaller the closer you get to the artifact, it's definitely an upgrade from the starter scanner but Veles is probably the best.
Bear detector is given near Wild Islands(in some mission 1 + 1 I found laying around).
But Hilka detector I found wayyy past Rostok, for me about 80h in..
Ive seen them being sold also, but as Ive got many of them I really didnt pay attention...
If you're already past that point you can pick up a quest in Garbage/Slag Heap, were 2 drunks ask you to put Vodka in their friends stashes, one of the stashes has a detector in it always (+ 2 anomalies).
After that you can find them at main vendors in the bigger towns I think.
I think i lost it after the mission with stashes for drunks, maybe it was bugged.
Thanks yall, since I'm still clearing all stashes in the begining zones before continuing with the story, I guess I'll check with Sidorovich first. But so far no luck with traders
I just love the Hilka - such a nice gadget.

It also preserves some challenge to the artifact hunt - Bear and Veles take all the fun out of it. The latter even makes bolts obsolete.
Do the vendors always have the exact same stock, no variation? Or might it have some randomness and Sid just didn't have one at that particular moment?
