Everything surrounding quest "On the Edge" is broken/bugged
So I really want to start this quest called On the Edge that you can do after the wish granter quest/Monolith resurgence and everything surrounding it appears to be incredibly bugged and broken. I even think I know exactly why it's not working correctly

The quest starts when you get contacted over comms to help Zalisya. Then you enter, and for me, there was a lot of fighting going on around the main building where the guide used to be. I killed what I thought were all the enemies, walked in and noticed there were tons of NPCs running around with bugged pathfinding.

Then I talk to Gaffer who is the quest giver, and after having no special dialogue options or unique lines, he gives the On the Edge Quest, which already seems broken. It gives you an objective to speak to Warlock who is in the next room; he also has nothing but generic dialogue but speaking to him does not advance the objective.

I think the issue is there are hostile NPCs still in the quest area, as after waiting for several minutes, some of the NPCs managed to path out of the entrance and began fighting each other. A door also got locked and a random NPC did a scripted animation to kick the door back open, but this didn't advance anything. I'll bet it won't properly proceed until the hostile NPCs are out of the safe zone/dead, and I can't even throw grenades into the safe area, so no way for me to kill them myself.

You might be thinking "just reload an earlier save" but oddly when I try that, there is NO battle going on when I arrive at Zalisya, I hear shooting but see nobody; not even around the spot where I witnessed the fighting the first time. And the door to the building with Gaffer is locked.

So yeah. Don't know what caused all this, don't know if I was supposed to rush over as soon as I got the request for help, but no matter what I do everything surrounding this quest is broken. And honestly I think I'm going to shelf the game until it's fixed, I don't like not being able to complete major content. Everything before the wishgranter seems way more polished. Hope this gets patched soon as I was really hooked on this game

It's a known bug, but I will tell you this. Secundary quests don't impact the ending that you get nor the main story line. So if you are worried about it, just move on with the main story line.

I might but this seemed like a pretty interesting quest, might just take a break and wait for patch or two, or try exploring a different area.

Yeah, everything before "Wishful Thinking" is much more stable and polished.

lmao thanks, will check this out and try to work it out for myself. Sucks it happened to you too

And yeah, it's clear these parts didn't get the same level of attention. It sucks because I like the turn the story takes but there's such a noticeable dip in quality

yep I tried to help them I got a message that they got attacked again and then I got that message when I moved on, really no reason to be in that part of the zone anymore anyway, this is why I try to explore everything around the story mission points as I do them

I don't know if they fixed this in a patch because I play on GFN and dont see the minor patches, but I tried the mission again last night and when I spoke to Gaffer it triggered the bugged NPCs to finally walk outside, finally allowing me to finish the battle and proceed with the quest.

Also you CAN save the town and there are rewards for doing the quest

Aight, after getting bored while sick all week my autistic side activated, Which led me to a workaround using UETools. Here's what you should do to fix 'On The Edge' quest. Make backups of your saves just in case something bad may happen. Install UETools from Nexus [www.nexusmods.com]. Then load your save, push '~' to open console (in my case I have to click it twice to see the log) and input the following commands. First is UEtools_GetAllRunningClasses All which lists al currently ongoing ingame classes. Then search and find one that looks like NPCs/AI . Mine was BP_AI_Human_C (idk if the plan on changing these, but it may still be the same for you). Before you type the last command be ready for a fight bcs it will teleport all monolith AI in your vicinity directly on top of you or use god UETools_God for a while. Last command is UETools_ComeToMe BP_AI_Human_C. Good Hunting Stalker

Edit: Fixed that command now. I mistyped that the first time. And you can look through all UETools commands after typing UETools_help. Thx for pointing it out Marki.

UETools_ComeAtMe BP_AI_Human_C says command not recognized
Where did you find that command?

Edit: Its UETools_ComeToMe BP_AI_Human_C

I got it working with

XDespawnNPCsAtRadius 100

Walk up to the Monolith Soldier like in his face and type that after i despawned them all the quest continued as normal and i was able to finish it even the defense afterwards.

This worked for me. The despawn removed some of the good-guy stalkers too (not a big deal), but once all of the Mono's were gone from the main building the quest could move forward.

It got wonky in that I thought I finished the quest and was leaving town. I got a notice to help fight the Mono's, so I had to go back and kill them. One they were gone I could finish the quest and access trader, repair, etc.

Oh, and the achievement popped as well.

More in likely an emission happened and they all hunkered down together...in the safezone spot. >:/

You must complete the On the Edge mission. Warlock doesn't respond but, that part is optional, just forget it. When you go to talk to Gaffer do not shoot anyone. Get the quest from Gaffer and complete the part of it about going to Uncle L's house. Also complete the 'kill Monolith scouts' part. Do that and come back. Dealing with Uncle L. should release the Monolith guys who were inside with Gaffer. They will be outside and you can kill them. Report to Gaffer. When he asks about Warlock's mission choose the 'it won't work' dialogue. The mission then completes. The mission is confusing because it really isn't about defending the town, it's about investigating what Uncle L. is up to. If you don't do that then the Monolith guys never leave the building.
Edit: So I left town and just outside I got the message from Gaffer to defend the town again so went back and fought off Monolith again. Then Gaffer tried to send me after Uncle L again, but since I already dealt with him I declined. The mission completed again, but I didn't get the reward (Seva suit) again. I'm leaving and never coming back to this effed up town.

yea kinda shame, since this seems to be a not insignificant way to shape the zone to your playstyle. And since it is basically the first town you arrive, you may have some emotions attached to it - and leaving it in a broken state does not bode well.
