Which early scoped rifle should I get?
I currently have the VS Vintar, SVDM-2, and Lummox's AKM-74S.

What are your opinions on these rifles? need to decide which one to use...

I carry the Veteran/Vintar sometimes too if I'm just out on patrol and not intending to do any missions where I might see extended combat. Ammunition availability gives it an advantage over the 9x39 rifles in the early going. AR in slot one, always a shotgun in slot 2 plus Skif's 9mm

SVD/SVU just feel out of place in this game considering how it works.

Please tell me what you mean abt the SVD? havent used it or the VSS.

So AK for early, and swap to Dnipro for late. clarify your use case for Vintar? and dont use SVD because?

Stick with Lummox's AKM74s until you find the M701 Super .308 rifle, I found mine around Rostok on a Merc. Altermatively the Clusterf*ck is also a decent choice especially with the 50 round mag attachment.

I personally found the Vintar really underwhelming with really bad bullet dropoff and the SVD was super inaccurate. Something about the Mark 1 EMR doesn't feel right to me but I can't place my finger on it.

There's one on top of a tower somewhere in lesser zone...

It kinda sucks because it's a long range scope on a mid ranged gun but it will sell well if you don't like it

Nevermind I think it was lummoxs

I used lummox's gun for a long time for single shot sniping, i dont think i used auto on it once.

Well I mean the ranges don't justify the added weight of the sniper rifles, in my view. Any scoped AR is good for the short to medium range combat in Stalker 2. I can't justify carrying the extra weight for the few times that sort of shot might be needed. The AR covers the needed ranges and works in close quarters too, and obviously far better than a sniper rifle will.

what about the AR416? will i be able to put a scope on that? is it worth it?

Sure, the AR416 is a 5.56 weapon, ammunition which may be harder to come by in the early game, but works well. You can put a scope on it and it will do the job as well as Lummox's AK or even better.

For me, I prefer eastern Russian or Ukrainian weapons in Stalker, they just fit my head canon. The NATO-ammunition weapons work fine. It's more of a role play thing for me.

There's a 416 you can get near the poppy fields that will do nicely. Don't want to spoil it more.

The Vintar. Being the shortest ranged of the scoped ones, it is the only rifle you will get mileage out of. The enemies spawn at 50 meters max.

Lmao, i think i have had like 3 or 4 go thru my hands before leaving lesser zone. I have the monolith one, got another from a military camp I busted thru and one or 2 more from other loot places idk. still have the monolith and the regular at 100% in stash. When can i unlock ability to upgrade them with the scope?
dbond1 Dec 4, 2024 @ 1:47pm
An upgraded Vintar is really good in my view. Hits very hard. And many of the upgrades improve the projectile trajectory, flattening it out and increasing range. I really like this weapon. It was the first one we saw in the opening scene of SoC and for me is the quintessential Stalker rifle.

Do you agree with Brother Barry's claim that the Vintar has bad dropoff? will still try it out, just wanna spend my caps better.

the one at the water tower mission from Zalyssa Base and make sure its set to Semi Auto mode, works great

AK weapons are easier to loot ammo for too, less trips back to the trader

You can add a scope any time. Just need to find/buy one that fits the NATO rail

I like its drop off. It is easy to adapt to.
