GSC has stated something on the order of "they will look into" adding binoculars and NVG, but no information was given about a timeline or what sort of evaluation would be required (technical? balance? flavor?) GSC does appear to have a lot of work to do on basic performance / stability / gameplay / balance, so binoculars / NVG likely would not appear very quickly (for example, how is it acquired, how much will it cost, where in the progression would it be expected to appear, will helmets and suits with helmets receive upgrade options, etc.)
We know exactly why they are not in the game.
I can see it coming, end of next year maybe new version with revamped A-life, combat and economy rebalance, binos and NVG, improved stealth and maybe the first big expansion.
it will reboot like Cyberpunk did when Phantom Liberty came out but it takes time, ages.
what we are playing right now is a very early version, the full game will come way later...
so either you play now with all the issues or wait for proper release.
Hmm??? Why?
You dont know sh*t
And why no NVG? If the decision about binoculars was about the online radius, how does that have anything to do with NVG?
Or maybe ... there was some decision process about NVG that didn't involve the online radius. Maybe it was something else.
And if they made it with these things in mind people would cry that the picture wasn't clear, and batteries aren't on every other corpse you loot etc.
As I don't have S2 yet, but have the three originals; a question:
* Do the flashlights in S2 require batteries to be installed from time to time? (They do not in the org games). If they do not need batteries then NVG's would not either.
As far as the LORE; NVG's are in all three of the previous games (and worked quite well). What LORE reason would have them all removed completely from the zone (even broken ones)?
As far as having "a good light"; yes - always helpful - but not always smart to use.
If I'm moving around a completely hostile and dangerous environment in the dark (with many, many dangerous mutants that would attack me on sight - some with good night vision; not to mention dangerous humans) - then the LAST THING I would want to do is advertise and announce my presence in the dark by "flashing" my "good light".
While any half-assed flashlight might illuminate, for you, 25 to 50 feet in the direction it's pointing; it is also a plainly visible beacon to hostiles from MUCH MUCH farther away (may hundreds to over a thousand feet away).
Tromping around a dark hostile environment, constantly disclosing your position with a bright light, is tantamount to committing suicide, IMO.
NVG's certainly have a place in the zone (as do flashlights).
Using your flashlight DOES increase the ability of opponents to keep track of your position, but stealth is quite janky currently. Opponents can be completely invisible to you thru foliage but you are seen by them and they lay down fire on you - I love some good stealth mechanics and I hope they are able to make improvements, but that sort of thing doesn't tend to be a simple fix.
The problem with no NVG's in this game is that NVG's were present in all of the previous games. So along with NVG usefulness, there is also the issue of consistency across the franchise.
