Weird ball artefact...

OK, another newbie question...

...how on earth do I recover this artefact without dying? I can get almost close enough by using the vehicles and rocks as cover, but I never seem to have enough time or cover to pick up the ball without then being sucked into the anomaly.

The bolt doesn't seem to have any effect on the anomaly, so is it just about getting the timing right?

The trick is to time running from each piece of cover to the next with the pulsing of the anomaly. If there is something in between you and it it doesn't affect you - you may need to crouch. The van the ball is next to is also safe to hide behind too

yes, and it's not that hard. You can almost reach it from behind the bus. Maybe you are hiding behind wrong obstacle?

You can crounch near the car next to the ball. You can even save the game there as its a safe point. Then you grab it, its almost one step away, back to the car, save. The RUNNING OUT section is the tricky one, not the ball picking. You will sucked a few times back, but if u can make a few meters further , its fine.

also keep your weight in the green, the extra speed can help

I have changed my tactics so I do run right round the puddle to the tanker, then move across to the rock and then the van next to the ball.

I can see it alternates between sucking and blowing, so trying to time things.

I can't quite reach it from the edge of the van, and that's been my issue for the last three or four deaths out of about a dozen. It just seems to take too long to grab it initially and then the anomaly starts sucking and just pulls me in.

Still, your advice means I feel I'm almost there, so will make a save point behind that van and keep trying...

and you can also shoot at him and knock him out of the anomaly altogether

i will tell everyone (each person separately) an easy way to get the ball for ? (not sure if I can put a $ sign here, without steam freaking out). It is so very easy you will be pissed at yourself for not figuring it out! It is not a cheat in any way! You will have the damned thing fast and move on to your next goal! I wanted to post a photo of my inventory, but I don't see an option here.

The ball can be safely picked up by peeking from behind the van during the "exhale" phase.

You DON'T need to wait for the picking animation to be over. As soon as the animation is successfully triggered, you can gat back to safety behind the van. There's plenty of time.

Why? If you backtrack the same approach route you used to get in, running from cover to cover during the safe moments, you can get out without damage too.
