Sniper rifles seem useless
Since the game is not rendering past 100m and spawns happen so close, it seems sniper rifles are not worth the added weight and ammo weight. Maybe a few specific situations like defending the duty outpost, and some other specific mission spots. Although I have not hit pripyat yet. Maybe there with the buildings?

They aren't worth carrying around. I just sell all the ones I find. You do need a rifle with a scope though. I use the VS-Vintar and the Mark 1 EMR. Although they're classified as sniper rifles they're really assault rifles with a more powerful cartridge. You can upgrade the EMR to fully automatic fire. The ammo is pricey, but worth it in the later game, because head shots with AP ammo make things much smoother when the enemy all have heavy armor.
Actually those 2 would technically be considered DMRs not Sniper rifle. In between a sniper rifle and a regular assault rifle. Heavier caliber and more emphasis on accuracy than an assault rifle, but usually less powerful optics than a full on sniper rifle.

That said the definition of a sniper rifle is kind of hazy to say the least. I mean someone can slap a strong scope on an m4 or AK and do alright with it if they really wanted to.

Lynx is semi-trash. It took me like 5 shots to kill a pseudodog with it on stalker. I need me a gauss rifle.

Yeah the DMRs are awesome, the bolt action type snipers are a bit lacklustre.
the m701 will oneshot everything in the game excluding boss tier enemies, very handy for mutatants and poltergeists, kinda doesn't have much value against humans with the insane flinch tho

good post, the last thing i need is my M701 Super being nerfed. are you guys actually upgrading the rifles you are using, maybe you need to farm some upgrades generally I love the rifles in this game. but the upgrades on some of them are night and day.

The Lynx SVDM2 special will last all the way until you get the Whip\SVU, which will last you until you get a Gauss Gun.

I gave up on them eventually. Dnipro can headshot humans at any range, has silencer, switchable scope if needed, auto for everything else. Shotguns are way OP given everything tanky is close range, big mag size and infinite fire rate. No slot or place for marksman rifles.

the distance is also misleading a bit, but that comes with arcade combat system and not realistic weapons. What the game claims as 50m is by scope 200m :)

My problem with sniper rifles is that once you are detected, all enemies seem to be able to full auto spam you at any distance and hit every shot. And since your aim stumbles every time you get his, you basically can't snipe once you are detected.

Under the right conditions, the bolt action rifle is great to carry around. AP rounds can usually 1 shot exoskeleton enemies from an upgraded rifle. And even some weaker light armor enemies can be 1 shot to the chest. But again the problem is you can't do any of that if the enemies keep you in a stumble loop.

Best strategy I have found to use the snipers is to turn off auto-lean in the options menu and manually lean around walls to get a pixel-perfect line of site with your flashlight off. And speaking of flashlights and sniping and stealth... There's no night vision in this game. That seems crazy to be considering how much I relied on it in every other game to just walk around in dark places.

HELL NO, Snipers are fantastic in this game. Aim properly and upgrade it.

It is in fact not true, your sight is limited to 80 meters lol.
So literally hand grenade throw range is the max range for every gun kinda like in CP2077? You gotta be kidding me. It would stick out here even more due to open outdoor world..
Are you saying that you can throw a grenade 80 meters. :special:

Late game I just carry Dnipro (Silencer + Coupled Mag)
Then I carry an open collimator sight as default for close range.
PAO 2X Scope for medium range.
ACOG 4X Scope for long range.

NPC don't normally spawn too far. 4x scope is more than enough.
Also Dnipro with 7.62mm conversation can 1 shot most enemies. Exoskeleton type medium range needed 2 however.

The thing that jams constantly at 98% ? Good God man

Its only happened to me once so far my entire time using it, set the ammo to semi fire not auto, way less chance of it happening

also 98% ? never had it happen at that, the time it happened to me it was down to about 85

I didn't keep it because I had already upgraded an AKM and I didn't like that the scope was welded to the gun.

I like the scope, but would like to be able to take it off. So I ended up just sticking with what I had.
