That said the definition of a sniper rifle is kind of hazy to say the least. I mean someone can slap a strong scope on an m4 or AK and do alright with it if they really wanted to.
Under the right conditions, the bolt action rifle is great to carry around. AP rounds can usually 1 shot exoskeleton enemies from an upgraded rifle. And even some weaker light armor enemies can be 1 shot to the chest. But again the problem is you can't do any of that if the enemies keep you in a stumble loop.
Best strategy I have found to use the snipers is to turn off auto-lean in the options menu and manually lean around walls to get a pixel-perfect line of site with your flashlight off. And speaking of flashlights and sniping and stealth... There's no night vision in this game. That seems crazy to be considering how much I relied on it in every other game to just walk around in dark places.
Then I carry an open collimator sight as default for close range.
PAO 2X Scope for medium range.
ACOG 4X Scope for long range.
NPC don't normally spawn too far. 4x scope is more than enough.
Also Dnipro with 7.62mm conversation can 1 shot most enemies. Exoskeleton type medium range needed 2 however.
Its only happened to me once so far my entire time using it, set the ammo to semi fire not auto, way less chance of it happening
also 98% ? never had it happen at that, the time it happened to me it was down to about 85
I didn't keep it because I had already upgraded an AKM and I didn't like that the scope was welded to the gun.
I like the scope, but would like to be able to take it off. So I ended up just sticking with what I had.
