Overpovered "Skif's PTM".
Hey everyone. I wish the developers would see this thread. I think the main character's starting pistol is an overly powerful weapon that needs to be weakened. It practically never breaks, weighs several times less than other pistols, is extremely cheap to repair, and is not inferior in damage to other pistols (it has the same damage as the .045 ACP UDP Compact - what?!) - and other pistols are simply irrelevant because of it. Especially with a silencer and an extended magazine. Damn it, it's just a "Makarov pistol"!

Agree. Combat is the worst part of the game. Weapons are weak until one gets the pump shotgun. The AK-47 has weak damage and above all ridiculous unstable aim. Enemies don't suffer from the same disadvantage.

In original STALKER the combat was also 'interesting' but at least there was a relative stable aim to achieve headshots.
Wut? the aks74u is literally my main right now and kills everything just fine.

Store it away. That gun is almost useless later in the game. Good for shooting rats and dogs.

there is no "AK47" in the game.

The AKS-74U equivalent can work well into the midgame if you hit headshots and keep AP ammo handy, but it will of course suffer a bit. It's classed as more of an SMG than an assault rifle. The game isn't based on realistic combat balancing, and it shouldn't need to be either. If you only find realism fun, go ahead and mod your game to ruin the combat balancing. That's your choice. This game has stable aim if you use a sniper, or stop moving/running around, though it still favours a run and gun lpaystyle if you're not just tapping heads with a scope.

The AKS-74 equivalent can also work well into the midgame, I'd even say towards the beginning of the endgame, again if you land headshots and keep your AP ammo handy. It IS an assault rifle type weapon, and can in fact mount a decent scope that lets you trivialize most human enemies.

The point of the balancing, like EVERY SINGLE PRIOR STALKER, is that you pick up new weapons of higher tiers to deal with higher tier enemies. You CAN run around with an AKS and land AP headhots on everything, but doing so makes the game much harder.

Cus you can mod Skif's pistol to not be a quest item, and as such you can put it away or sell it...

BUT they don't ever take into account people might not wanna mod their game, for any reason, when they reply.

Well that makes sense. I usually try to play first run completely vanilla or with only cosmetic mods but this game is really making me consider getting some...

Yeah, I noticed that I use this thing all the time and it's durability is fine. I'm not complaining but it does seem really crazy durable.

On a side note: I love this gun. It's probably my favorite starting pistol from any game. It just feels good to use, and it sounds awesome. Got a nice little extended magazine mod in it.

upgraded and with AP ammo, has good range and accuracy, I used it for human enemies until I got a VS. I hated the early game AK scope and recoil so I just used Skif's pistol to clear fights against human enemies, ended up saving up like 700 AK ammo lol. That thing is great.

It is the only weapon I never bothered to replace it's uses for plinking the rats and the dogs. It doesn't cost $700 to repair it for firing 10 rounds like it every other weapon.

This mod fixes some weapon balance issues, the devs should take notice, the orignal stalker games also went by bullet type for damage

Original games rougly based damage off of calibre, but also rarity and purpose. 5.45 guns generally did less damage, but there was also no penetration stat to add further complexity to weapon balancing. Only AP ammo could alter that. It's also worth noting that the 5.45 guns have less damage because they're either the most common ones in the game, or they come with extremely effective burst fire modes.

Having a story locked pistol outclass almost any other handgun feels like bad design.

It just makes finding new ones feel like you collect junk to sell, not something fun to shoot.
Otterking Dec 21, 2024 @ 5:33pm
It does more damage than an AK or M4. Nonsensical weapon balance.
