Will main quest take you to every area or need to explore?

I'm at Wild Island now.

I have a suit which can only be upgraded at Rostock which I haven't been to yet. Will that be part of main mission or just make my own way there?

I explored all of Cooling Towers for example and that wasn't part of a main mission (yet?)

if it's anything like other open world games then no, you will miss stuff if you focus on main only

You will get to Rostok as part of the main quest. Other areas, probably not.
I explored Cordon for myself, and so far nothing in the main story sent me there.

Not 100% to every region, but something like 50-60% of the map regions. Others you need to visit yourself.

I don't even follow quests anymore, I just go from one point of interest to the next, and I've found tons of great guns and even an exosuit.

100% the game, there are three regions the story wont take you to. the 2 north west and chemical factory.

You need to explore a bit - because you have to work on your gear. Just by rushing through the main quest you will have a disadvantage there. Also you miss sidequests which are unavailable at some point deeper into the main story.

yes the game will have you travel through most of the map. some areas, interactions, and npcs are only unlocked after you progress through the story. however you should still explore often to make money, as the in-game economy is really bad (at least for me. last few missions ive done have had no payout and cost me $40k in repairs already lol. 50hrs in)

The game takes you to the Cemical Plant if you side with a certain faction.

I've finished the main story and the missions (both story and side) took me to all of the areas except for Cooling towers. But at this point I also think it's heavily dependent on the choices you make in the story.
