Is it too much to follow the story with all those exotic names and factions ?
Or is it just me ?

going past SIRCAA i'm slowly getting there, and god knows i played the 3 OG games and watched a lot of lore recap vids for the release... the story makes no sense to me anyway and is just an excuse to explore the zone ngl...

Stalker 2 expects you to be familiar with the story of the original trilogy I'm afraid. But even *I* had problems following it

For me It is because world is so wast I frequently engage with side missions. I had the same problem with Witcher 3, after exploring the world I just couldn't remember the plot. I want to replay game anyways so not a problem.

For me it's perfect honestly. Read all books and played all games at least 200 hours tho. The moment you come back to old npc's you've known or hear the old stories npc's are talking about the immersion level for me went up by 100. There's much stuff like that here, all the factions and how they interacted. The sultan taking over the svadovsk that I spent so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ many hours on in the previous title, bear and him still fighting over it. The beginner village still being there with it's unholy bunkertrader.
If I didn't know that I'd be completely lost here tho. Like how should you feel immersed about the monoliths when you don't know them. I got there being like "ahhhh I wanna blast these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ so hard. Lemmeh kill them." while people on teamspeak asked me what's the deal with them anyway and hearing their(Monolith's) story here I got sad about how it turned out for them, even when destroying the cult was necessary and completely switched to helping which I didn't think I'd do.

Honestly I thought the same way until I read the comment. :D Of course I'm gonna check out some anomaly ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my house and try to find out what the artifact is/gonna be interested what the zone is like when that happens, would be the best thing to get out of a mundane life with nothing in it. Same as I'd like to find out who tried to ♥♥♥♥ me up. It ain't about the damage, it's about curiosity and wanting to know who/why.

I feel the same. But i have somehow the feeling this confusion is full intention as it shall represent another problem of the zone which is difficult to manage.
The decisions you make may not be right or wrong but more leading to story path A or B - both not that positive or negative. Maybe they want you always to be a little screwed, no matter what you do.
With the current story bugs it doesn't get better, so sometimes it's really better to just kill a guy and move on as posting #2 says.

Definitely having this problem. I have played the original 3 but its been years. Very poorly structured quests and storytelling. The PDA is just obnoxious to use. Too many names, too many factions, too many radio comms from randoms. Too often I hear the main character mention something I had absolutely no idea of happening (not sure if its due to bugs or what), I mean I am trying to follow the story, but I'm failing miserably.

I don't really understand even the main purpose of why the protagonist really is there. Their apartment was messed up by an anomaly so instead of finding a new apartment or fixing it he goes to the zone to explore and investigate. That's weak. Unity of purpose is most important if you ever want to immerse to your character and I just don't get it.

What's weak about it? His house got destroyed in a war so he said ♥♥♥♥ I'm going to the zone.

to be honest, after 30 hours I still don't know who is the Ward (is it the Siirca guys?), Monolith and who am I with.
At Siirca hq there was an experiment with the wish granter using my device, then all of a sudden I was after emitters.
still not sure how psi radiation affects me and why are the effects going away if i leave whereas other npcs become zombies from it.
The Story is told too fast, you literally don't have time to digest anything.

but the game is fun and i'm sure I'll better understanding next year when I'll play it again with patches.

ps. why do people say a-life is broken? i just saw some dogs fighting with other big beasts in the wild, from a distance.

Story IS hard to track. Reading all the relevant PDA's you find helps. But so much of those are non-sense story wise. It gets better in terms of understanding WTF is this is all about as you plod along, but still a lot of WTF. If you never played the others even harder to know what on earth is going on.
