I was tired of running everywhere, but mainly because I was overloaded and wanted to sell guns/etc. Running while you are not encumbered is quick; like 5x as fast at least, and things are not that far apart.
Now, I have about 1/2 the map uncovered; not sure where I am in the story, but just got missions in the Swamp. I rarely ever get encumbered now, because I only take 4 food with me, 4 anti-rads, and a dozen health packs and bandages, with ~100 ammo for 3 guns.
I also have ~100k coupons with gear as modded as I can, so I don't bother picking up weapons anymore unless they are near 100% to sell. For me it has gotten better because I don't carry a lot of stuff, and I don't pick up a lot of stuff now...
I dunno, some of us were hoping for exactly that. Classic Stalker with much improved visuals, which is what weve gotten. And no, im not excusing the bugginess of the game and Im not thrilled about it, but I also understand why its like it is and am willing to cut GSC some slack rather that regurgitate hate. The balancing act of what to take and what to leave behind, how willing are you to crawl along overloaded for half an hour to make a thousand extra in cash, etc. The heart of the Stalker franchise was always about struggle, atmosphere, and lots of dying and not a fast paced shooter. Theres lots of those out there, not so many like Stalker.
You cannot play like this the moment that you need repairs for the guns and armor you lose half of that 100k thats why it is a must to pick like every weapon at least the expansive onces or els you will find youself out of money. The repairs is a big issue imo and also the stamina is really bad.
The original games weren't as open as Stalker 2, so they didn't feel as empty, but I think GSC has planned around the bigger, less dense map here ... their plans just aren't working correctly yet.
