Guys, is it just me or do you also have an item with one price and then when it's time to sell it gives another? I picked up an artifact called "Crown" worth 20k but in the village store he buys it for 6k

20k is the objective value of an item. 6k is value they are willing to give you so they can flip it. Trading 101

That's the normal economy at work, NPC'S will never buy at full price.

The only way to get better prices is having green reputation (green vendor icon on your compas bar) with said vendor, but even then, it won't be close to the full amount.

its like pawn shops. you get an offer of 5% of the value, and then they go and resell it for 150% of the value.

And does the amount they are willing to give change between merchants?

It won't be even close to white traders (green Barmen or green Hamster VS white Eugene. Spoiler Eugene always gives a better price even when selling things) . Reputation system is broken.

In fact, they will give you only 10% (0.1176470588 to be exact) from the sell price.
