Half of the first town just dropped dead?

Got to a point where the sky turned red and some of the NPC's went inside.

Turns out about half the town didn't do that and just died.

Like literally half the town just dropped dead. It was mainly NPC's inside of buildings that didn't move and apparently the buildings didn't count for some reason I dunno if they weren't bulky enough or what but a bunch of them just died.

Is this going to cause me problems later because these folks are named but I haven't talked to any of them and it seems like I'm about to leave the lesser zone so I doubt they were important but it was pretty strange to walk outside and see half the town just dropped dead.

That was an emission and they do happen every now and then. Every npc is actually named, only some are special and they should be inside already.. Shouldn't be any problems for you later. If the sky turns red a quest will pop up for you to get to cover, do that. If it's marked with the quest marker then it is a safe place to wait out the emission.
