The traders rip you off so hard that even though they practically doubled the early game artifact prices, functionally, you still only get approximately the same as before.
This is backwards to how the old games used to be. If anything, no matter what, you should be going to the (scientist faction, so Malachite) to sell your artifacts for the best price, not hiking down to the starting town because they like you. You sell it to the people who know their worth.
This makes a way more interesting dynamic than what's going on where everyone is just out to rip Skiff off as much as humanly possible until he goes out on a limb and either does a bunch of work for them, saves their asses on repeat, or generally just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their whole situation.
We could have an interesting dynamic where the people who need or want specific goods pay more for them, but instead we have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ reputation system where it seems like only Zalissya by default isn't going to completely screw the player. Which is ironic, because spoilers means that can be taken away from you (and half the time it's bugged now anyway...)
