Before the patch:
When I first get there I had the problem like many of us that the quest did not even start. Mainbuilding was closed and some monoliths inside. Rest was dead I think.
Then I read somewhere, that a player could do the quest when he get to Zalissya before an emission. So I load the last savegame I had in Sircaa and went to Zalissya as fast as possible. This solved the problem and the quest work like intended until you could talk to Gaffer after the last battle. But the last check "kill all monoliths"(or similar) did not get green. Anyways I left Zalissya Gaffer said everything is fine now but when i went further away second message came that Zalissya is dead. So the same problem most people had.
After the patch:
I load a save before I moved to the lesser zone. Almost everything went fine until the last battle should start - but the monoliths never appear.
But I was glad that I had an automatic save from the last days (before patch) right before(in the moment when) this last battle start and load this. Monoliths spawn, I killed them, talk to Gaffer and could leave Zalissya with the message that its save now. I went to wild island and no message that Zalissya is dead and went back there and yes, everything is fine until now. Hope I can play now and the status of Zalissya wont change in future.
Btw: Hamster and his buddy died everytime they wanted to enter the mainbuilding or when I left the village before they get there (they layed in the grass before the building). Plus, they were dead in every save game, no matter where they were (saves before patch). But after I left Zalissya and it didn't get destroyed atleast Hamster was alive again and I could speak and trade to him.
What I also noticed was that the check from "killing the scout patrol" changed from green to red when I told Gaffer that I had done everything for him (before the last fight)

After patch right when I logged in I got message from Gaffer congratulating me for saving Zalissya. I was able to use a guide back there and talk to everyone.
Lucky you, I stopped with the main quest right at the nootide doctor where the door was, after the patch that bug was fixed but when I got to Zalissya thee was nothing but softlocks and weird bugs that prevented me from completing it.
I have many earlier saves but I'm getting tired of reloading saves and losing hours of progress, so I;m not sure what to do at this moment.
I gave up and reloaded to right after completing the mission at the sphere. I'm just going to totally avoid Zalissya so I don't trigger anything until it's actually fixed.

What zone is the chemical plant in? If you don't progress that far you can explore the rest of the map without failing it, right?
Nope, sooner or later the quest will just fail itself because it's limited by time.
