It's a 13gb patch that writes across the 132gb directory. That doesn't mean you are downloading 132gb again:steamfacepalm:

Its not. You download only 13,7gb but because of UE5 the patch needs to be installed into every single file they changed, hece the 132gb of data thats beeing writin.
John Nightreign Nov 29, 2024 @ 6:33am
It has to write to the 150 gig install. Others will hop in here and be a ♥♥♥♥ to you and pretend that it isnt the same thing as reinstalling the game, even though it basically is. They will also pretend like thats reasonable, but alas this is the world of UE5 unfortunately.

Yeah, you are not downloading 132gig.

Steam is downloading 14 gigs, and installing it across the game files you have installed.

10 GB download on GOG.
atfcharger Nov 29, 2024 @ 6:34am
It's NOT. It's a 13.7 GB download. It's PATCHING 132.0 GB.

Steam shows drive access for the current download. Blue bars are the download, the green line is the disc write. It's not downloading the game again, it IS however ( perhaps even more egregiously ) decompressing, writing to, then compressing the files back into " pak " files for the game to use which is a quite frankly stupid amount of stress on a drive for a single patch. It's not going to make your drive break tomorrow but this kind of ♥♥♥♥ is why drives die out faster.

This can be a bit misleading on games like this because i believe steam still shows the network being used normally but if you check the stats on the download page it's downloading in like tenths of a MB / sec even if you're downloading at your max speed according to the page.

Because to do patches like this you sometimes need double what the game takes up. Yes it's stupid. Blame modern game development. Unreal is just carrying this horrid practice forward because it's easier for devs. Not users.

Dude it's just placing a 13 gig patch over 132gigs of data.
