How do you dodge Pseudogiants' shockwave attack?

You can sidestep all its melee attacks relatively easily but no matter when I jump the shockwave attack hits me every time. Done it right as it lands and at multiple points when it's still in the air. What's the timing here? Is it dodgeable at all?

I know Gamma's not an official STALKER title, but I distinctly recall that game having no such ability to dodge the blast zone if you are inside the range of it at all. Range was the way of things with them, so I'm assuming that's the case here as well. Usually I just kept away from them and let other patrols dumbly waltz right up to them.
