Simply not true. Mods expanded yes but they didnt magically made whole new mechanics. There indeed were meaningless and pointless pda messages originally. the mods just made immersive stuff out of it.
The entire self-repairing of weapons, cooking, hunting, stash creation, artifact crafting, artifact protection container, etc. systems were all mechanics that were added in mods, so wdym that mods didn't create new mechanics?
It's fine to compare with mods for older games, we just have to understand that the content is from mods and not content that was cut from one game to the next.

Sorry for the confusion. I did play every orginal Stalker 1 unmodded and im fairly sure ive seen this feature in the orginals. Couldnt find it while searching online though. So you might be right.
