Unreal Engine 5 is Garbage
Why do developers keep using this engine?? It runs like garbage, doesn't look any better than most, and if there's some crap you can do in it that can't be done others I've yet to see anyone implement it.

Unreal Engine makes no sense. It runs well when it wants, and garbage when it wants. I can't even see anything that triggers it. I can play through an area with my graphics on high, run 50-70 fps with no stutters. Reload a save and play the SAME EXACT area when it decides to run like crap, lower all the graphics, upscale from 720p, and be in the teens for fps.

I don't get it. It's not just Stalker either, it's almost every game that uses this damn engine. I wish devs would just quit using this piece of ♥♥♥♥ or stop releasing full price big games on it until it gets figured out...

Rant over, besides Unreal Engine being more bipolar than my ex-gf, I am loving the game!

Create better engine by yourself, everyone will be happy to use it

its the most superior engine out there ... far better in terms of quality to performance ratio ... you would be in a quite the surprise on how bad the game would be if they used some other engine

UE is known for stutters, yes - but the performance here is caused by the missing CPU optimization. In some areas, or weather conditions, you can do whatever you want in your graphics settings...no matter if you set it on low, or epic...it won't change much. Even with the best gaming CPUs out there, like 9800x3D, you are in CPU limit, in most cases. You can't do much about CPU related problems, except waiting for patches.

The only thing you can do to compensate the framerate a little bit, getting better 1% lows, is using frame generation.

i dislike unreal engine 5 as much as anyone else but... with stalker 2 the real issue is that the devs decided on using lumen for their lighting and etc

https://www.nexusmods.com/stalker2heartofchornobyl/mods/214
if you want to check it for yourself this mod here gives you a REEEEALLY easy way of completely turning the whole lumen ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ off

you need to click "advanced graphics" and then set global illumination method to 2
SSGI to 4
reflection method to 2

your game is going to look horrible because of the lack of shadows/lighting and etc but... as youll be able to see for yourself lumen is the sole reason as to why the game runs the way it does

The problem isn’t the engine it’s the laziness of developers not creating new assets or optimising the game since they just slop dlss and frame gen on it instead.

With unreal 5 Devs can do more, u can see how much effects in-game, just need more polish, look at Fortnite with same engine, runs well, looks good, but they work with that engine few decades, stalker Devs only few years

Not true, this game huge and you can't do everything well with small team

Everspace 2 was ported from UE4 to UE5 and looks stunning, Mechwarrior 5 Clans is UE5, Wukong again is 5, so OP has no idea what they are talking about, more crying from people with potato pc's

There are lots of engine.ini / gameusersettings.ini tweaks you can do to fix a lot of the performance issues, at least making it very much playable and not annoying. There's a guide on steam as well as on nexusmods until the patches have arrived.

unreal engine 5.5 fixes alot of the issues that lumen had but the problem with 5.5 is that it released like... more or less 8 days prior to stalker 2 coming out
...its kinda tragic because in theory they could update the game to 5.5 but... eh... im not going to be optimistic about it

that has nothing to do with unreal engine, and everything to do with time, implementation and your specific hardware, I can make A star algorithm tank your PC, does that mean A Star is bad or did I just not have enough time to optimise my implementation by use of heuristics?

youre right and wrong because back when lumen was introduced in fortnite it had the same issues as stalker 2
currently fortnite is in the 5.5 version of unreal engine 5 and using lumen in its highest setting doesnt crash your game's performance as badly

Seems ok on AMD Video Cards. I seldom have any issues. To be honest i'm really glad i moved from Nvidia.
HiggsLP Nov 28, 2024 @ 12:56am
Works fine for me.
But whats the deal with Lumen, its screen space raytracinh which should be much less resource hungry than full RTX/path tracing implementation?
And when RTX cards wete introduced it wasnt even possible for ppl to play MP games without the RTX effects, bc the rays coming from enemy eyes would be not realisticly looking.
And now 3x less FPS hungry limen is the problem suddenly?
Go figure. If the RTX would eat 50% of ur rtx4090 then evwrybody would praise the Rtx implemenyation as 8th miracle of world...

What’s your card and graphics settings?
